Official Droid X Froyo update thread

My phone still won't find the Froyo update at all. I get either, "update is not available at this time," or "checking for available updates" that goes on forever.

I've tried a hard reset, using WiFi, everything.

BUT... then again, after seeing all the problems here, I'm not sure I want to update.

For Rob and anyone else who is having the same problem, after talking to VZW Level 2 support techs, the only solution they have is to do a factory data reset (backup everything you can think of, Astro File Manager has some good functions) to get it to find the update. I would suggest that you do the update immediately after the Factory Data Reset and THEN reload your apps.

Also note that some of your apps may not appear in the Market because Google has to update their servers to show that your phone is legit and what OS it is running. Then the apps will reappear. Abduction World Attack was one such app I had problems with. Resolved in ~1 week.

I haven't had any significant problems with Froyo after following these instructions other than a weird spontaneous restart. Usually at night so I haven't really noticed it as a problem that affects operation.

So I just realized something that I don't like about froyo... Before the 2.2 update my DRM music (from Zunepass) would sync with my X... but now I get the "you do not have sync rights for this device"

I can't even explain how sad I am :'(

I did a factory reset to cure some problems but I'm now getting choppy phone calls sometimes. Anyone get this same thing and should I try reseting again?

I have definately been experiencing some lagging and slowness since my froyo update. Also, there used to be a media volume adjustment in the sound settings but I can't seem to see it now. Its a bit more convenient to turn the media down b4 I open a flash game then to have it start blaring and have to quickly hit the rocker. Anyone know where that went to?

So get this... after weeks of my phone not finding the update, I'm about four hours away from home in a motel in BFE Oregon, and for the heck of it, I do check for updates, and it finds it!!! So I downloaded and installed it, and so far it seems good!! We'll see.

So I haven't did the 2.2 update (Froyo I guess it's called) yet and have read through two big threads on here about the update. I just got my X a few days ago and it came with 2.1 on it.

Guess my question is.........if you were back at 2.1 again, would you choose to do the 2.2 update again?

rest and kindle

Can anyone tell me if my Kindle books will not be accessible if I do a factory reset? I have backed my phone up in backup assistant in settings.

Kindle books are stored online so just open up Kindle and log in. It'll sync your account and your books should be there.

One of the problems I noticed with my phone since I've done the update is when I send email or text messages they come up blank. everyone is just getting blank messages.

I really need to fix this. How do I do that?

how do i know if i have froyo?
My Android version is 2.2
My system version is2.3.15.
Or do i already have it?
Thanks

Being your first, I recommend going to youtube (on your pc) and search for Droid X videos. It's amazing all of teh things you can learn to do by watching a few of these.
