Official Droid X Froyo update thread

HBO and Hulu deliberately doen't work with mobile phones. Try something else that requires Flash video, like Youtube or CollegeHumor.

Is there a reason that people are so reluctant to factory wipe? Between the SD card, gmail for calendar and contacts and AppBrain, why not do what's necessary to correct your problems with minimal inconvenience and loss of essentially no info?

Factory wipe for me (despite no problems on my phone) in ~10 minutes, and well worth the time invested.

Or, is it just easier to complain?

I think I might go with your suggestion and do a factory wipe. One question, do I have to unmount or wipe the SD card? Does a factory wipe clear the SD card of all contents?

how are people updating?

I go to settings, about phone, check for updates
and keep getting
"check for update was not available at this time. try again later"

or it just gets stuck spinning searching for update

Go to Settings > Data Manager > Data Delivery > Social Applications and make sure Sync over WiFi only is unchecked.

Then try it. You might want to turn your phone off/on too after unchecking. But mine worked without turning off/on.

Has anyone managed to reinstall easy root after the official 2.2 upgrade?

mine was still installed, but when i try to run it, it says "root successful" but then when i restart and open it again, it says I need to root agian, so its a liar :)

dissapointed in Froyo? agreed!

I have to agree with you slickrick. All you ever heard was froyo this and froyo that. Everybody in the Android rooting community/media had us all freaking out over wanting froyo. When it finally came out all it did was reduce my Incredible's battery life by half (yes..half! not an exaggeration) and appear to have no effect on my droid x (besides ability to use chrome to phone). Cmon guys. If something really isn't going to be that big of deal don't make it one. But I still respect and appreciate all of the work that same community puts in reviewing these things for us.

I'm actually pretty disappointed with the FROYO update. Not at all what i was expecting. Lots of bugs and new things that can't be changed.

Froyo running great on my DX

I'm really sorry to hear so many people are experiencing issues with Froyo or even just trying to upgrade to Froyo. I hope it works out for everyone.

For those still having problems after the install check this out if you haven't tried it already: http://www.androidcentral.com/froyo-factory-reset

I was able to pull the update on midnight the day it was released on 3G w/no problems and it's been great on my DX. I see a noticeable improvement in performance.

My DX is my 1st smartphone, 1st Android phone and minus a few things here and there I've been extremely pleased with the purchase and am even happier now that I have Froyo.

A few screenshots to share of some benchmark tests on my stock, unrooted DX:

Great stuff...how did you get screenshots of an unrooted X?
and what benchmark program did you use to benchmark?
linpack..nevermind, I see it now.
Just did mine and it was..
13.097 mflops, 6.4 secs....now I don't know what any of those numbers mean, but that's what it was.

You have to install the Java SDK and then use one of the applets in the Android SDK to get the screenshot. I did it on a Mac which is actually a little bit easier than on Windows.

Install the Java SDK for your platform, make sure you have the right drivers (didn't have to do this on the Mac), run the ddms applet and capture the screenshot.

The link to the instructions are below, it's not as complicated as it may seem: How to: Take Screenshots with the DROID X - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

The benchmark apps I used are Quadrant, Neocore and Linpack. The later test doesn't play well with the TI processor in the DX and the score doesn't reflect how powerful the DX really is.

With Quadrant I was getting scores in the high 1200s pre-Froyo and with Froyo been averaging in the mid-high 1400. Can't remember what I was getting w/Neocore though.

Stupid of me, I totally forgot about this method. I tried this myself, but it is an extreme pain in Win7 and it just wasn't worth the 4 hrs to troubleshoot. Great screens.

so i really dont know much about droid x or these types of phones, x is my first one.. just got it last week. I see where it says i have an update available under system updates and im assuming its this 2.2 update... if i just click update and let it download, should everything work properly? i pretty much only use phone so far for texting, phone calls, internet, and a few apps. Ive seen people in here talking about being rooted or unrooted, dont know what that means. 48 pages is too much to look through...

thanks for any help.

i just got my droid x 2 days ago still have alot to figure out i updated to 2.2 and i honestly think its pretty laggy i constantly kill all of my apps and it still locks up on me
