Official Froyo Update Instructions for Samsung Captivate - It's Here!

Well my main deal with not going to the official froyo is the simple fact that even the video from Phil's Captivate with the official Froyo was no Voice Dialer like the i9000 based captivate roms have. So I think I am going to stick with Perception 10.2 with firebird kernel!

Same here. I'm quite happy with di11i's v6 ROM. No AT&T stuff, has mobile ap, decent gps, etc...

:'( Just went through Froyo update with Mini Kies. My phone was rooted. I un-rooted before the update. Update was successful but when the phone rebooted it passed at&t logo and takes a while on galaxy s screen, it thens sits a black screen. Did a battery pull and reboot but no luck. Any suggestions.

Edit: I did not nor have i ever flash a custom ROM. Phone has been stock since i bought it. Only rooted and installed OCLF.
From the Samsung instructions to update the AT&T Captivate:
How Do I Update The Software On My AT&T SGH-i897 (Captivate) Phone To Android 2.2 (Froyo) Through Kies Mini For PC?

?What are risks for performing the upgrade?
◦This upgrade has been thoroughly tested by Samsung and AT&T to be compatible with Captivate devices running previous versions of the released software. Customers who are running unsupported operating systems (e.g. those that are rooted or have not been received from AT&T and Samsung) should move forward at their own risk.

On my USB settings, I have "Kies (Firmware upgrade), Media Player, and Mass Storage"

I don't have PC Studio anymore. What the hell happened to it?

I used OCLF to root and install lagfix. I uninstalled the lagfix though. Still rooted.

is there a way to get the update on a mac
Depending on what Mac you have, you can use Apple's Boot Camp to create a dual boot Mac and install Windows XP or Windows 7, or you can search for ways to run Windows programs on a Mac. The quickest way would be to borrow a Windows laptop from a friend or buy a cheap Windows laptop. Until someone creates a mac version of mini kies.......

Update complete. The changes to device speed were negligible. Oh, what a shocker: USB and wireless tethering require adding it to your plan. I'll try it out for a day and if it's no better on battery life and overall performance, it's back to Cognition for me.

From the Samsung instructions: How Do I Update The Software On My AT&T SGH-i897 (Captivate) Phone To Android 2.2 (Froyo) Through Kies Mini For PC?

Kies Mini Does Not Detect The Phone:

◦Depending on the amount of data stored on the memory, this could impair Kies Mini ability to detect device if phone is set to Samsung Kies mode. It may be necessary to remove the microSD card if inserted. Should problems persist, the internal memory may need to be purged. Backup up all desired data and then goto Menu>Settings>Privacy >Factory Data Reset. Follow the onscreen instructions and after reboot, attempt to connect to Kies Mini.

◦The Media Scan process could produce a loop if connected while in progress. If this occurs, disconnect and power cycle the device. Wait until the device fully boots and the process is finished before connecting again.

◦When the handset goes into download mode instructed by Kies Mini, additional drivers need to be installed. A timeout may occur from the time the drivers install until Kies Mini can detect. Should this occur, close Kies Mini and remove the cable. Next, remove the battery cover and battery. Afterwards, insert the battery, place the cover back on, and power on the device. When the device reboots, connect the data cable and open Kies Mini.

◦Kies Mini requires an 2.0 USB port to perform an upgrade. Most PCs will have this. If your computer is running XP with no Service Packs, a Service Pack needs to be installed to provide support for EHIC (assuming your USB h/w meets USB specs). If there are problems with updating, trying plugging in the cable from the front of the PC to the rear or vice versa then attempt to update again. In addition, avoid the use of hubs and docking stations.
Connection Lost:

◦Kies Mini contains an update feature which will download the latest copy of Kies Mini. If you are experiencing problems with the connection, simply close out of Kies Mini and reopen it. At that time, it should check for updates

I figured out why phone was not completing the boot up process. I wiped all the data from the phone and that allowed it finally boot up. I will add all my data back but no biggie.

Evidently 64-bit operating systems aren't supported by Kies mini.

Awesome. I get through all the installs and restarts and this...

Now what?

If you have Windows & Home Premium or better Kies mini should have been installed in the Program file (x86) folder. Did you re-boot your computer after the install of Kies mini? If not, re-boot. If Kies mini dosen't work then re-boot your phone. If that doesn't work, go back to the PC, samsung. Kies mini, Samsung Kies mini. Right click on Samsung Kies mini, select Run as administator, Yes. then try it. If none of these work, I guess you'll need to contact Samsung.

Stuck on black screen. . . vibrates!

I am somewhat new to all of this, but my situation is similar to yours. I am stuck with a black screen and the phone occasionally vibrates. How did you wipe all the data with the phone in this state?

Take the battery out, power the phone back, then press the power, volume up and down buttons at the same time. In the menu you will see clear all user data. Do that and then reboot.

It was installed in x86 running W7, 64-bit

I get the error "MiniLauncher has stopped working" when I plug in the Captivate and the program force closes.

I did reboot after the isnstall. I've even done a re-install after a System restore to clear the registry and get the same thing.

I've tried rebooting the phone and computer, run it as Administrator and in the XP compatibility mode. Nothing works.

I contacted Samsung and they just said "Kies mini is not supported in 64-bit OS" - but I've seen everywhere people successfully upgrading in 64-bit, so I don't buy it.

I don't know what else to do...
