Official Froyo Update Instructions for Samsung Captivate - It's Here!

Just tried that and same thing...

Here's what I get every time:
Capture-1.jpg

Dont remember if I read it hre or another forum but I was having the same issue and they recommended removing IE9, I did and it worked, took me 25 mins to update, now just having a problem after installing Tibu, it wont recgonize root or install busybox

Hanging @ 17

I am attempting to upgrade to FROYO but it has been stuck at 17% for the last 30 minutes, I guess I'll try again with fear because the Kies mini has a warning not to disconnect the mobile or power off the PC.
:-\:(

OK after the 4th try and a few hours later I have FROYO. It kept hanging and finally I was able to get a message in the Kies that the phone has been updated and it took about 10 minutes. It also said to wait until the phone finish ideling. I even kept my settings but I have lost about 6 apps.

Wont recognize my phone

Kies Mini wont recongize my phone. I have tried all 6 USB ports (windows 7 Ultimate - 64bit) and tried on a laptop (Windows 7 Home 64bit)... Same thing on both machines, "Please connect your mobile phone". Whats next???? Rain dance? Sacrifice a chicken????

I've done the rebooting, reloading drivers, run as admin...nothing works!

I'm getting an error every time I try to upgrade where the kies mini program crashes, I'm using windows 7 64bit with an AMD system.

edit: I've checked and I'm running IE 8 and I've been running kies as admin. also tried different usb ports

Finally done with the upgrade. Took about 10 minutes total to upgrade the OS, but took me at least 2 hours figuring out how the freakin' KIES to recognize my phone. What a waste of time. I was really ready to just do go back to do the Odin one click...

Anyway, long story short it finally works, and the actual upgrade was quick.

Here's some tip to those still having problem upgrading.

Here's the problem I was having, and finally figured out what's causing it. Anyway, after installing KIES, and plugging in my phone, my phone was stuck in "initializing MTP device", hence it fails installing the driver on my computer. I did some research, and found out that weird/long filename is the culprit. So I have to look for it and delete it. I have found a little software that actually looks for the offending files. I'll post it if someone is interested.

After doing that my computer finally was able to recognized the phone and able to install the apppropriate drivers. I thought that was it, but KIES was still in the "connect your phone" mode, and not seem to recognize my phone.

Really getting frustrated at this point. So, one last try is to keep the phone connected, and kill KIES, and restart it again...

SUCCESS!

KIES recognized the phone, and prompted me that there is an upgrade available. And the rest is history...

Pfft. I can't believe it took me longer to figure out to recognized the phone, that the actual upgrade! Grrrrr.

Take the battery out, power the phone back, then press the power, volume up and down buttons at the same time. In the menu you will see clear all user data. Do that and then reboot.

I am now at this point as well. Have had the black screen with the occasional vibrate for one hour now. So I have to wipe all my data just to upgrade? Sheesh. This just keeps getting better and better.

Just used Windows 7 x64 to upgrade from stock 2.1, w/no problems. Total time w/downloads around 20 minutes. Cratered my widgets also, and seems to have deleted some downloaded Beautiful Widgets skins, but I can live with that. Surprisingly easy.

PRAISE THE LORD!!! THIS WORKS!!!

Uninstalling IE9, a quick reboot and mini Kies started up flawlessly.

Not out of the woods yet, still have to run the upgrade, but just wanted to let you and everyone else know having trouble, getting rid of IE worked for me when nothing else did.

Thanks a million!

it took kies about 10 minuets to go to the "upgrade phone" screen. I thought it wasn't connecting to the phone, but after several dis-connects/ re-connects by me, i let it just sit there for a while and kies finally gave me the "upgrade" screen. then things progressed just fine. about 25 minuets all together. happy ME
:D

Same the happened to me. Clearing user data worked. But very annoying. Also, the contact list doesn't work. Anyone else notice this? None of the pictures are showing up.

I've upgraded my phone, seemingly successfully.

It's sitting at the "Galaxy S" screen after initial bootup. How long does it sit here?

-E- As soon as I submitted it carried on. It's doing more crazy stuff now.

It's here!!! Looks like its through Kies Mini. Unfortunately, I can't get Kies to recognize my Odined phone ( I used standalone, so one-click should be good), so these directions may or may not work. I'll keep this updated with any issues that arise. Good luck, and post your thoughts/experiences in the thread.

Seems like this is the leaked KB1 update, so if you have that already, I wouldn't waste your time. Also, it seems this will not wipe your phone, so that's good news.

UPDATING FOR WINDOWS (sorry Mac users, no love for you yet).

STEP 1: Download Kies from here. Just update a few minutes ago for Froyo!

STEP 2: Run the .exe file you downloaded. Choose language, agree to terms and let it do its thing.

This is where it gets iffy since I can't get it to work.

STEP 3: Under Setting>Applications>USB Settings and put it in Kies mode. Hit the home button.

STEP 4: Open Kies, and plug in your phone. Kies should recognize your phone, and you can hit the Update Phone button and start the update.

The update is supposedly taking rather long. DON'T FREAK OUT, AND DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR PHONE UNTIL IT FULLY BOOTS!!

When it reboots, go into Setting>About Phone and you should see the following:
firmware 2.2
baseband version I897UCKB1
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build number FROYO.UCKB1

Congratulations! You have Froyo! Now time to start complaining about Gingerbread lol.

ISSUES:
Some people are complain about the update failing (sometimes multiple times). If this happens, keep trying.
Mixed results with GPS
Z4 root is not working, neither is the update.zip method (new recovery)
Updated hoses your widgets. Not a big deal, just don't be surprised.
directions are good. i installed the keys, followed your directions.. all i get is a pop up box driver softwar installation.. mtp device installed. which keeps going through a search mode(searching preconfigured driver folders) then states its ready to use. my phone just says connected.....
what am i doing wrong????

Upgrade went well.

Upgraded my wife's vibrant a few weeks ago using Kies mini so I knew it worked on my computer. Updated Kies.

Removed lagfix and deleted OCLF and was rooted using Z4root. Left the phone rooted. After the update the phone was unrooted. Left launcher pro as default also. Phone updated without a hitch (thank goodness). After rebooting I rooted using the superoneclick described in various threads and I found on xda. Had to reboot to get Titanium Backup, shoot me and wireless tether to work. They all work fine after reboot. Did a quadrant and got a 990. Downloaded and applied OCLF 2.0 from the market and got a 1995 quadrant score. Ran outside and tested my GPS and it locked in 15 seconds. Then used Realtor.com to find my position as well as open table and they all worked! Finally a gps that I can use with these apps!

I bought the atrix yesterday at Costco and wanted to update my cappy to 2.2 before selling but I am pretty happy with the ole cappy tonight. Might just have to hold on to it for a while before starting up the atrix!

Thanks to all who posted before me which helped me have success.

Wow, after much trial and error earlier today, I finally was able to install 2.2 after getting rid of IE9.

Froyo is freaking awesome, so glad a solution was found. Big thanks to the poster who suggested deleting IE!

But how do we install non market apps? Thoughts!? I use Lotus notes for my push notifications and I haven't figured out way to install it! I tried sideload and it installed the initial apk..the problem came when the installation initiated further installation from server..

So you got Wireless Tether to work, under Froyo, on the Captivate? GREAT.

Now can anyone confirm, if Wired Tethering still works if you use FULL Kies 1.5 (I use that now, with 2.1 on my Captivate, with no issues).

Dumb question, but do I have to remove the OCLF (One Click Lag Fix) to do this or can I leave my OCLF as is and update with no problems?

I'm just worried if I leave it with the Lag Fix, it might brick my phone or something?
