[Official] Gingerbread Update - Bugs, New Apps, etc.

But it is smart when doing any kind of OS upgrade to do a fresh wipe of the device. Usually fixes most issues. It's been the most recommended thing by Google and the AC crew. Heck when I do the same with Windows and my other devices whenever i'm doing a OS upgrade.
Yea I understand that... But, what about the thousands of users who knows nothing about doing stuff like that. You and I and many more tech savvy users are capable of doing this - but I'm more concern of the ones who don't have any idea what a "reset of your device' even means.

Right now I'm having a hard time positioning this 'darn' cursor just to erase a typo. I really don't want to 'reset' my phone, and then having the same problems going on. Ugh!!!!

In my folders, on my non rooted evo, the majority of the icons are just showing as the green Droid. It's only in folders that I created. I removed the apps and put them back into folders, seemed to work until I restarted the phone then it went back to a bunch of little green droids. Any suggestions? It is only affecting the apps that are on my SD, and only in the folders.

I noticed after the update that my Amazon account now has 2 EVOs attached to my account the original "HTC Evo" and a new one called "HTC Evo 1".

Also, *all* of my exchange contacts have been duplicated...

ugh!

I'm not sure if this will help...but it's worth a shot.

What you should do is "restart sense" - here's how to do that. Menu -settings -applications -manage applications... All. Force stop•>Sense. Only your display will be affected by this. You can customize the phone back to your liking. Your apps and everything else won't be affected by this.

Best of luck.

The only work around that I have found is to NOT reboot with the fast restart. If you re-boot with the power down method the icons do not change. That is, restore them by removing the droid and then establish the app link again and the correct icon appears. Then re-boot by power down and the icons do not revert back to the stock droid icon. If you re-boot with the fast re-boot they do revert.

Worked till I shut it down with restart, then it was back....

If you restore the icons (delete from folder and then add back) and then re-boot with the power down instead of the quick restart the icons remain correct. That has been my experience on my EVO.

Hopefully we get an update 4 the update soon. Glad I wasn't the only one with this issue.

The issue comes when I have to swap batteries, which is at least once a day, so I hope they fix it soon, or just give us the new sense. Whichever, I will have to live with shutting the UI down to get my icons for now.

I have noticed two issues on official HTC widgets not working since the update. First the HTC "Coin" widget stops unexpectantly every time I try to use it "The application Coin (process com.htc.rosewidgets.coinflip) has stopped unexpectantly. Please try again." comes up every time. Also the widget to control the GPS under the settings widget intermittently does not work. Usually right after a wake up. Anyone else having these issues? Also my orientation on Google Maps isn't ever correct after the udpate but I think that has been mentioned with the compass issues. Please let me know if these issues need further explanation.

What's the deal with the speak to text? It now only works if I have almost NO background noise! Sometimes it's better than others. Before, it was really good. Best feature of the phone before Gingerbread. It better improve!

After reading all the Pros & Cons of this update, and experiencing it for myself. I can say undoubtedly, this update brings more issue than we had before. :-\

Use all the resources to make complaints: (Twitter @HTC @Sprint, Facebook or any other way possible.) Somebody need to know and do something about these crazy things happening.

I actually haven't had any problems so far. I did my update manually the Friday before the release. My voice controls work as well as they did before and I used it frequently. I love the new cursor icon so I can move the cursor exactly where I need to and edit. I like the new notification icons too. I can't say anything about the battery because I use my phone all day and have been using a 3500mAh extended battery since day 1. So far I've only noticed improvements. ....I hope it stays that way haha

No this is no different from past upgrades. This happens every single time. No need to complain about anything, considering just about every enthusiast that knows the system well will tell every single person. Wipe the phone after upgrading. Then if you still suffer the issues, then go ahead and take the necessary steps to report the issues.

If you read back into history this stuff happens every time, in about the same fashion. So no this shouldn't defer anyone, because again even Google and Android Central recommend you wipe the phone clean when upgrading the OS. It's common to do, and should be done anytime your doing any type of OS upgrade. You guys seriously need to try that before loading up these topics. 9/10 times this fixes the issues. It's been discussed so much of why things go wrong when upgrading from one version to another. I do a wipe every time and don't suffer any of these issues.

I've noticed that when using TeslaLED or the phones built in flashlight that it's not as bright as before.

I can honsetly say that I have pretty much no issues other than GB broke the led notification on Handcent (now fixed) other than that I love it. battery life seems greatly improved as well

Each individual device may vary. I did a "reset" this morning and the bouncing cursor issue have been fixed. The voicemail pop-up notification didn't. Apart from some application not being compatible with this version of Htc Sense (gingerbread 2.3)... I'm good thus far.

(Just thinking)
I wonder why the Evos never had gotten the gingerbread keyboard with the skin most users wanted. Ugh! Thank Google for the market... And thank the devs for giving us options. :-D

i disagree. no problems here. and i question the validity and seriousness of the problems being reported. i think some of us don't appreciate how good we have it.
