[Official] Gingerbread Update - Bugs, New Apps, etc.

i disagree. no problems here. and i question the validity and seriousness of the problems being reported. i think some of us don't appreciate how good we have it.

you think there's a conspiracy?

I am personally very much enjoying Sense needing to reload itself to memory every time I leave even a mildly memory intensive app.

I'm sure this is a "feature" added by htc so we can see that sweet green htc logo more often! Boy have I seen it a lot these past few days!

no i blame user error.

In my folders, on my non rooted evo, the majority of the icons are just showing as the green Droid. It's only in folders that I created. I removed the apps and put them back into folders, seemed to work until I restarted the phone then it went back to a bunch of little green droids. Any suggestions? It is only affecting the apps that are on my SD, and only in the folders.

I had this happen yesterday to my non-updated EVO. I noticed it was only the apps that were on my SD card. Is that the case with you? This happened to me while connected to my laptop and fixed itself when I disconnected.

Ah yes, very valid argument! I personally realize I and all the others experiencing this issue obviously forgot to debug a few lines of code when we compiled the update and sent it OTA.

Since this was never an issue before it's obviously the fault of the many users experiencing the problem. No amount of data wipes and starting fresh will save us from the errors we created all on our own.

I find us so ungrateful, what sort of person expects a tolerable user experience on a device we paid a good sum of money for and probably signed a nice long 2 year contract to get? The customer is WRONG!

I have to agree. So far things are pretty good. A couple of apps that need updates but overall stable. The battery life could be the real winner so far.

ExACTly. I saw that screen at least 10 times yesterday. After backing out of an app, a browser, or hitting home button. Long reload times too. All widgets must reload, etc...very frustrating. And I had NO memory issues before this upgrade. I uninstalled apps too. Guess there is a memory leak in the OS build. Man, in one fell swoop, I feel like i went back in time to my Palm Pre!

I don't think it's a memory leak, I think somehow Sense just isn't being prioritized into memory the way it should be/used to be.

Overall my phone feels SO much quicker and fluid, the new animations i think help to build that sense of fluidity. I was always shocked by how smooth my mom's htc aria seemed and how nice the little flip clock and screen switching animations were compared to the evo's jarring instant non-animations.

Anyhow, hopefully they push out an update soon, I love the update, but sense creloads 10-20 times a day now. I just opened the market to check for app updates, hit the back button and sense had to reload again :/

After completing the OTA update, I performed a factory reset. As others have suggested, I too would strongly suggest performing a factory reset if you are experiencing any issues. I have experienced a few application issues, but I am not considering those issues with the update. The developers of those apps need to update. Everything with the actual OS seems to be working good for me right now.

There are a couple instances where this might happen. One, you turn your phone on and the system has to load all the apps from the SD card into memory so you can access them. The droid icons will revert to the actually app icon once it's done loading. Two, your SD card becomes unmounted from the system and the app data can't be accessed. Such as when you hook it your computer to put music on it or you remove the SD card from the device. If anything...just give it the ol' reboot and let it load everything up and see what happens with your apps.

The problems I am having with the Update are that my gmails don't push anymore I only can get new emails from refreshing in gmail. My weather app for sense doesn't update anymore and under settings update automatically and update schedule are greyed out so I can't change anything.

No problems until this morning. Email force closes when I try to delete an email. Did a restart and my wallpaper changed back to stock wp. Managed to delete one email before fc started again. Pulled battery and wp went back to my chosen one but email still won't work at all. Can't read emails either.

Just a quick question....under MENU -> SETTINGS -> ACCOUNTS AND SYNC. Is Background Data and Auto-Sync checked marked? Once it is, you should be able to adjust your syncing schedule like normal. Just remember to set them up so they wont drain your battery dead in a few hours from to much syncing. :)

when in doubt - reboot.

when really in doubt - hard reset.

I don't know if it's just my computer modding/building background but solutions like hard resetting are like throwing the baby out with the bathwater for me.

When i have a computer problem, I don't solve it with a format, I fix the actual problem.

with smartphones this a little more difficult at times and hard resetting may be the only solution, but if you don't at least put forth a little effort to find the cause of a problem, history WILL repeat itself.

If you were rooted, part of installing a new cutom ROM is to wipe the cache and dalvik cache. Because this is not an option with the stock recovery, the process we need to use is a factory reset.

My EVO has run flawlessly since the update! When you follow the manufacturer's recommendations for upgrading, everything seems to work better!

What recommendation and which manufactures are you refering to...

Sadly that's how most people solve their computer problems :-\ troubleshooting is a dying art,.

OK, along with icons showing up as the default android icon, text to speech on IMs not working, Netflix not working, I am getting the following error message displayed after each reboot:
"com.htc.bgp has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again".

Not sure what that message means or where it is coming from but its annoying that this and the other issues did not occur before the update.

I was able to "fix" the error message "com.htc.bgp has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again".

I had narrowed it down that it was only happening when Facebook for Sense was syncing. I removed and readded the facebook for sense account and the error is now gone...

I'm not referring to flashing different roms, more so to troubleshooting problems within a rom.

this being an ota update, wiping your phone *shouldn't* be necessary, however here in the real world things rarely go the way they're supposed to.
