[Official] Gingerbread Update - Bugs, New Apps, etc.

under contacts storage though it says it controls all sd card contents and sms messages. would this mean all of those will be deleted too, like sms history and other apps on my sd card?

not that i can recall, someone else might want to confirm. I'm pretty sure sms will be fine though...

Yeah that by far the biggest and most annoying bug. Also unlike many other bugs there nothing that can be done about it. Others have some tempaory fix albiet less than perfect, its still something. I bet the fix is..buy the Evo 3D. I heard it a problem with gingerbread on other phones too tho much less frequently. I think its not priotorizing Sense above other processes running. It's treating it like any other app and closing it as it see fit. It should get special treament, even when memory is low...leave Sense alone.

I had some questions about the EVO gingerbread update. Are you able to view your Picasa web albums in the gallery like on the Nexus S?

1. this thread should have been exclusively for NON-ROOT ONLY and titled in bold as such. have a separate thread for rooted devices which have their own list of unique issues. i think it's important to separate the two. hopefully this will be done for future OS update threads.
2. everyone who is still having problems should try a factory erase and also be sure to uncheck fast boot.

I can see the value of separating the root from non root people so that we can determine what is strictly Gingerbread related and what may be Rom related, I can even agree with doing a factory reset after update to make sure you are starting from a clean slate and that nothing else might be interfering with the performance of the phone.

The Fastboot thing I kinda have to disagree with. I have heard from several places that turning off fast boot is a solution for fixing some of these rom issues and I think it has helped. My problem with that though is that if you are going to add a feature to an OS then that feature should work. Proper testing should have been done so that we make sure it does work. Some of these issues seem pretty obvious and should have been picked up on before the update was released.

I realize that once the update is put into the hands of millions of users that problems are inevitably going to come up, but dont release an update that is stripped of Services and features (Screen Off animation, I am looking at you) and has pretty blatant and obvious bugs just to get it out to the masses before you release your next flagship product. I personally would rather have waited a few more weeks and gotten a complete update then deal with all the problems that have been introduced by this "major" update.

My two cents, what does everyone else think?

the only issue i am experiencing, and it is a pretty big one, is that my battery life has decreased by 25%. maybe it's a coincidence? i did go into accounts and sync and unchecked some of the sync accounts that were automatically checked after the update, but that doesnt seem to help...

Got a new evo today, stopped receiving texts on my old one (it was hilarious watching 3 days of texts flood in suddenly on the new evo at the sprint store)

still on 2.2, ran unrevoked, now going to try flashing my nandroided image of my old phone with 2.3.3, wonder how this is going to work out. going to keep a nandroid of the current rom just in case.

Found a new issue today and before I report it, I want to see if anyone else is having it. This only started recently because it didn't happen a few weeks ago before GB... When listening to music with headphones and pressing the mic button twice to skip to the next track, my phone skips a track, pauses, and redials the last person in the call log, in that order all in one action. At first I though maybe I pressed the button one too many times, then I tried a battery pull and restart, but it does it every single time. I use MixZing, and the headphones that came with the Palm Pre, if that makes any difference. Any help or suggestions?

I don't know if this has been mentioned before or not but since the GB update "Weather Bug Elite" does not properly display weather advisories. You can go to the page but when you click to expand the advisory you can only see two lines which cannot be scrolled or anything.
mine too

Exchange calendar items, wrong time zone.

i didn't see this one discussed: If I try to edit any existing exchange calendar items, it shows that the Time zone for the event is EDT while I'm actually in PDT. Any new calender items I add from the device are fine. Any items I add from the PC or OWA via exchange show up as EDT. My PC is correct and this only happened after the GB update.

I deleted the exchange account. And re-added. Problem persists.

Clock/timezone in EVO settings are correct.

I found a bad bug in the camera app. When I take a photo and it goes into preview and I choose to delete, it almost always makes the phone restart. Sometimes it takes two or three times doing this but a restart is inevitable. I want to go back to 2.2 now. I've had enough of this update. Hopefully the 6/20 update fixes most of this.

Justryan, I could not duplicate your camera bug, FYI (tried 6 pictures in a row).

Contacts FAIL!

Hi everyone! I have been having a major problem since the update. First, I was having trouble with Sense constantly restarting when exiting larger apps, like Plants vs. Zombies. So I read a fix where you turn off Fast Boot, and that should fix it. So I did. Adn that actually worked. However, not long after that, I started having the Google Framework and gapps error messages randomly popping up, particularly when my phone was syncing.

When I searched the forums, I discovered a possible fix where you figure out what is causing the problem by individually syncing calendar, contacts, etc in your google accounts. I figured out it was happening with my contacts. So it said to back up your contacts and then clear the data from both the contacts and framework apps, then sync again. So I did that. However, I am still getting the same error message when I try to sync my contacts from Gmail to my phone.

So I read further in the forums, and it says that when you sync, you should be able to see where the sync is stopping and erroring out, and that is the contact you need to remedy. However, I can't seem to get a single contact to update via sync to even see where the bad information might be! It is immediately erroring when I hit sync!

So now I have no contacts on my phone. The thing that concerns me is that I am getting the error when I try to sync contacts for both of my gmail accounts, not just one. So either there are bad contacts in both accounts that are causing a problem, or it is something else entirely. I have not done a factory reset because I don't know if that will fix it. Maybe I should?

My phone is non-rooted and is currently rocking the latest Gingerbread update. I hope all of this made sense because I'm tech-savvy to a point...aaaaand then my knowledge drops off real fast.

I appreciate any help you can offer!

Same here. I was wondering why the phone kept restarting when using the camera, and it does seem associated with deleting freshly taken photos. Good catch.

Camera Restart Bug

I had the camera restart bug yesterday. This also was while deleting a picture I had just taken FWIW.

My sister came over tonight and her stock EVO is still running 2.2, so it looks like HTC/Sprint have pulled our problematic update and are tweaking things to re-release a proper one. #fingerscrossed

Has anyone heard if the update to the update will still be offered starting today, 20 June?

I hope it fixes the camera bug and the android icon bug. But, if you missed it, the android icon bug is a simple fix: just go to another "scene" and then back to your scene and the icons are back right again. I have not noticed many of the other bugs other than compass being non-functional. I also feel like the battery is worse than before - some have better, some same and some worse according to this forum.

I have not noticed the camera bug or many of the others but hope the update fixes all :)

Thanks for sharing the scene change fix for the missing icons. That's an easy fix!

I haven't seen this bug I got. When running a app like Navigator my phone shuts off and then keeps looping comes on then off. I have to do a battery pull to stop it. Then this past weekend I was trying to watch ABC player it launched fine and then the phone shut off kept looping. Never came back no matter how many times I pulled the battery just kept looping Sprint splash screen to 4G then splash screen hundreds of tmes. Had to take it to the shop where they were able to do a hard reset. It still shuts down on it's own if I am on a app too long, did it while restoring my favorite apps. No update to fix bug yet either. So far I don't like this Gingerbread. The guy at the store offered me a 3D when they come out and will advance my upgrade date (only have the 75.00 not the full 150.)......it's temping. Oh and I am NOT ROOTED. Suggestions????
