[Official] Gingerbread Update - Bugs, New Apps, etc.

WOW what A pos update my phone is way worst than before the update thanx alot sprint unreal

Care to elaborate on the issue? At this point it seems like it went pretty smooth for the majority of us and the only issues out there with the update were minor or related to third party apps that are not fully supported at this time.

Are you saying that this update (gingerbread) is all there is to it?

(Q) Have anyone successfully gotten the features - Pocket mode and Flip for speaker to work.

Yeah, I'm basically saying I'm not holding my breath for another GB update - ESPECIALLY only a few weeks after the last one.

ICS would be nice in the future, though - I hope HTC and Google make good on the updating rules that Google wants to introduce.

Update- Thank you Handcent for such a quick fix to our LED notification issues. I did find this morning via App brain that my Amazon apps (about 4) had updates that weren't showing up in the Amazon store. When I checked it said no updates available. A simple uninstall, restart on the phone and re install of Amazon App store fixed it. All apps now update. The fix for the generic app logos in folders worked like a charm, thanks everyone for all your help. Ever since I did a restart on sunday night I haven't had the HTC logo and reboot of sense from anything yet. <fingers crossed> seems like it worked itself out. Time will tell! So far I'm going to hold off on a hard reset as it seems all my issues are resolved :)

Please help! Gingerbread screwed my phone

Having a few issues after the update:

1. I can no longer do a voice input. If I pull up the keyboard and hit the microphone or just press and hold the search button the lower right side of the screen, the Google voice input comes up, BUT it acts like I don't say anything and times out. It is like I have the microphone muted. Calls work fine as does voice recording.

2. LED notifications are gone. Email and messaging. Others are having this problem too, right?

3. Here's a big annoyance, I can't change the default ringtone. Oh i can change it, but it keeps playing the Windchimes ringer.

Did Sprint release this update so we would want to get the EVO 3D??? :-$

Thoughts? Suggestions? Anything would be most appreciated.

Josh

Don't kill me, but I'm just wondering if those with the Voice input problems do you have your phone in a case?

Mine is not in a case and hasn't really changed that much. Sometimes it get's things right and sometimes when I say "don't melt" it will put in "yahoo mail". But I've had that problem before the 2.3 update.

flip speaker works.
How did you get it to work. I'm seeking to know how exactly? Anyone care to explain this?

Another thing I've heard is.. the keyboard we have on the EVOs is infact the (keyboard) for our phones. (The only improvement is now there is an option to cut/ copy / paste. Long press in text area) And the gingerbread keyboard on the market was never made for the EVO. However, if you don't like the stock keyboard you can always replace it for another one available on the Android market.

I'm not being ungrateful by saying this, but this update isn't really what I was hoping for. The cursor movement is so annoying. Ugh!!!!

when you're in a call, place the phone face down on a flat surface.

Both my girlfriend and me updated our Evos, manually within hours of each other. She is experiencing more problems then me. Also to note, these are brand new, less than 1 month old phones; I switched from a Droid X (Droid 2 before that), her from a Blackberry.

1.) The ever-present voicemail icon. I gave her this suggestion and it seems to have worked: Pull the battery while the phone is on and leave out for 5 minutes. Then, after reboot, update profile and PRL. Just clearing the notification in setting only rid the problem or about 30 minutes.

2.) An intermittent roaming icon (and presumably actually roaming). I've had the icon pop up at home and now at work, too. Neither are in roaming areas. It last anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes and disappears as magically as it showed up.

3.) Seriously wacky coverage indicator. All bars to no bars to 1 bar to 4 sitting in the same spot. I understand signal flux, but this is WAY more than normal (I believe this is connected to the problem above and the update has somehow messed with the radio signal)

4.) Blue halo/glow to the keyboard, or just one key - sometimes. I haven't gotten this one, but she has, and a few other people have reported it too. Apparently, switching from landscape to portrait, or vice versa, clears the problem until the next random time it happens. ( My guess would be some sort of Gingerbread bleed through)

5.) 720p camcorder is choppy as hell now. Any movement I record now looks like it was shot with blurvision.

I would agree that battery life is improved and the speed/flow of the phone is also better. I am a bit disappointed that HTC/Sprint could not find it reasonable to update Sense. I don't want 3.0, I know it won't run on this model, but at least a generous skin upgrade would've been nice.

People have a right and reasonable cause to complain about this partial update. Some people are experiencing much more than just minor annoyances BECAUSE of this update. Reading the 1000s of post since it was released on Friday prove it is causing nearly as many problems as it fixed - NEW PROBLEMS. So complain away, HTC does listen. But it will be up to Sprint to care enough to approve the distribution of any fix.

I've emailed both HTC and Sprint on the problems we've experienced. If their replies are of any substance above a form letter I will post them here.

Good luck.

I've got an issue I haven't seen mentioned. My Google Contacts and Calendar won't sync. I contacted Sprint support and they did lots of Profile, PRL updates, reset my Google account so I had to re-login, but it's still won't sync. I tried to delete the account to reinstall, but it requires a factory reset to do that, so I haven't yet. Anyone have any suggestions, short of a factory reset.

I've had this problem before when my EVO runs low on internal memory and it came up again after doing the Gingerbread OTA (my memory was down to 20 MB, which also prevented me from installing updates for other apps). I had to delete some apps and once I got above 40 MB, the calendar began synching properly again.

on an incoming call when screen locked - is the incoming caller name bar two thin lines now red and green? i don't recall these colors before - i think they were just grey. i'm not talking about the answer and end buttons.

Noticed this myself the first day I updated, so guessing it's definitely new.

thanks for the quick confirmation.

it makes sense (no pun intended). red (up) = decline/end, green (down) = answer. a nice constant reminder kind of like that little arrow on your fuel tank gauge reminding you which side the gas cap is on.

LOVE the Gingerbread update. I updated on Friday and just updated my wife's a few minutes ago. Definitely more pros than cons. I could do without Netflix for a while until they fix it. Battery on on my Evo with Froyo was horrible (6 to 8 hours) before recharging. I literally had to have a charger at home, one in the car, and one at work. With this GB update, I'm already on my 14th hour since I unplugged it this morning and it shows that I have 40% battery left (same usage as on Froyo). My Evo performs alot faster now. Day one it was a little sluggish right after the install but after a few battery pulls and continuous use and it feels like a new phone. Lots of small new treats, nothing major but good improvements. I was really looking forward to the new Evo 3D this summer when my upgrade (Sprint Premier Gold) came up because my Evo on Froyo was so slow and the battery life sucked. But thanks to this update, now I'm not in such a hurry to jump on the Evo 3D bandwagon. I will wait a few weeks, maybe even months until the bugs are worked out on the first batch of 3D's before I get mine.
