[Official] Gingerbread Update - Bugs, New Apps, etc.

LOVE the Gingerbread update. I updated on Friday and just updated my wife's a few minutes ago. Definitely more pros than cons. I could do without Netflix for a while until they fix it. Battery on on my Evo with Froyo was horrible (6 to 8 hours) before recharging. I literally had to have a charger at home, one in the car, and one at work. With this GB update, I'm already on my 14th hour since I unplugged it this morning and it shows that I have 40% battery left (same usage as on Froyo). My Evo performs alot faster now. Day one it was a little sluggish right after the install but after a few battery pulls and continuous use and it feels like a new phone. Lots of small new treats, nothing major but good improvements. I was really looking forward to the new Evo 3D this summer when my upgrade (Sprint Premier Gold) came up because my Evo on Froyo was so slow and the battery life sucked. But thanks to this update, now I'm not in such a hurry to jump on the Evo 3D bandwagon. I will wait a few weeks, maybe even months until the bugs are worked out on the first batch of 3D's before I get mine.

Ill probably do the same with mine. Loving thr gb update, but want to get my hands on a dual core phone for future updates.

I can't get images inside an email or HTML images inside emails to show , just a box with a question mark

With regard to Pandora. On my rooted phone, updated, and with old radios ( I tried to install new ones, and it did not work yet). Anyway, Pandora works as before., i.e OK

Bug: after upgrading to GB, the Amazon Kindle app no longer lets me download the Baltimore Sun for reading. It still works on my wife's Epic. The option to retrieve the publication no longer appears.

I am not sure if this is a bug, but it is definitely different. When I was running 2.2 when I went into settings>accounts and sync I would have separate accounts for "Facebook" (I assume this was the app), and "Facebook for HTC sense".

Now on 2.3 I have an account for "Facebook for HTC sense" but when I try to add an account for the other "Facebook" the option is there but nothing happens when I press it. I can add Flickr, Qik, Skype, Twitter, etc. with no problems.

Anyone else seeing this? Thanks.
Yep, I'm getting the same thing. The Facebook option is there, but nothing happens. Not really sure what the difference is anyway, but I suppose it should do something...

It never has worked, even in Eclair and Froyo it never worked. HTC blocked it, because it had Facebook for HTC Sense. They wanted you to use that instead.

Downloaded successfully, but wont install - little help? I cant find the download file in hopes on removing it to re-download

A few things:

After the update, the My Tracks app is giving errors about "No GPS location provider was found on this device". It still works, but the location arrow doesn't seem to point in the right direction anymore (compass issue?).

Changing a contact picture finally! seems to be remembered and has not reverted back to the facebook picture. Previously when you changed a contact picture, the facebook profile picture would always come back.

I use My Tracks and Endomondo for tracking both the new and current Hiking and bike routes I go out on so I can track time and distance for comparison.

I was also getting the same error as you with My Tracks until they updated it just recently and I have noticed it since.

The location arrow IS due to the compass issue. Since the compass is not working properly and cant distinguish which direction North is properly, it does not update the proper position you are facing. I have however noticed that with both My track and Endomondo that they seem to be tracking properly when recording a route.

Looked through the thread... couldn't find these issues noted below:
1.) Bluetooth headset won't stay connected... works for approximatly 1 minute then disconnects. Previously this functionality was rock solid.
2.) WinAmp interruptions... works, but has about 2 second interruption in the music approximately once every 10 to 30 seconds (inconsistent).
3.) Wireless G inconsistent... I've got good signal, but at times, the wireless connections seems to go braindead.

Why should I update?

I was about to update to GB and then root at first chance (for the first time) but after seeing so many issues and so little additional features, I am really wondering if I should even update.

I've had Gb for a week now and this morning it starts forceclosing and restarting, any help?

i received the update today...the notification to update was on my phone this morning. the thing i've noticed is that as many others, shootme doesnt work, which kinda sucks since i really love that app. i guess a root for is in my future which i can do since i rooted my epic. coming from the epic i always had the high percentage screen display so to be honest i didn't even think this was an issue or cause for concern on the evo until it was mentioned as a bug with the update. i dont have any issues with the voicemail just yet. when it intially booted up after updating there was no voicemail notification nor when i did a battery pull to reboot to test it out. my memory stayed the same so thats good (205 mb of free space). i do have a question if i move some of my apps to the sd card will they launch from there or will i have problems using them from the sd card? i know while some apps can be moved to the sd card they have problems working from there. also what is that new app in the drawer the downloads app? i noticed that one and of course the telenav app (which it looks like it replaced sprint nav). i also noticed that the app for the desk clock is gone and now its in the actual clock app and the search people app is gone too...not that ive ever used it and my usb does charge my phone when plugged into my laptop not just when i plug it in the outlet so thats a plus. so the only thing is my shootme.... boo hoo lol

Since GB update, i cannot place a call. I go to dialer to make call, screen appears to be dialing but does not and goes back to dialer screen. After I do a battery pull and it reboots I'm able to make a call. Has happened several times. Anyone have this issue?

This is a big deal for me too. I listen to about 4 hours of podcasts daily on my bluetooth headsets. When I used wired headsets the wire was constantly getting caught on something and flinging the phone.

Can anyone else confirm that bluetooth cuts out after a minute or so?

Has anyone done a factory data reset to see if it corrects some of the issues users are experiencing?

I have and it corrected 99% of my issues that have already been discussed here. Except for the following:

1) Compass Issue
2) Speech to Txt from the keyboard and Google Search.
3) Generic Icons in folders.

I can test the first issue later today. I just need to charge my headset as I haven't used it since they gave it to me when I upgraded to the EVO last year.

As for the Wireless G issue I noticed it act a little weird myself. It works fine when I am in my house and as soon as I step out to my porch or backyard its dead. Before the update it would work just fine outside.

Anyone seeing an issue where when you hit the Home button, you first get an HTC logo screen, then you see your home screen background with nothing and all the icons & widgets (slowly) repopulate? I know of at least 2 other people besides me who are seeing this somewhat frequently (maybe 5% of the time we go back to the Home screen).

I have had that issue more frequently than I like. Usually it happens after I exit an app.

Just to add to the clock being a hour behind issue, my daughters is actually behind 1 hour and 2 seconds exactly when it flips to the current time.

It never did this before, for the 1 comment that it's always been that way.

We've tinkered with DST and time zone settings and it makes no difference. Unlock and the clock is 1 hour and 2 seconds behind then flips to the current time.

It's actually quite a bit more annoying that I would have though it would be.

Otherwise, the first thing I noticed was how much faster it starts. And my daughter is getting tired of me messing with it. :D
