Official Gingerbread Update - bugs

Got OTA yesterday and spent the day trying to deal with problems:
1. Continuously received android.process.acore stopped error messages
2. Counld not sync contacts with google
3. Could not answer phone: it just rang and rang until I pulled the battery out.
4. Got continous low space warnings..
5. Backup Assistant was running continuously.
Had to do a factory reset and start over..

Be sure to follow the instructions here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-droid-incredible/111563-preparing-ota-8-15-11-a.html before accepting update.

Answered my own question. No you can't just move it to phone storage then move it back to your SD card. I did that with 1 app to test and it worked, but then I rebooted and the app disappeared again until I moved it back to phone storage. What a load

Try this... It worked fine for me...

Move all apps from the sd card to the phone.

Turn phone off and remove battery.

Put battery back in and start phone.

Once booted up, move a few app's from phone to the sd card.

Turn phone off and remove battery.

Put battery back in and start phone.

Let it boot all the way up and although it may take a few minutes, the app's you moved to the card should show up.

I did this procedure and all is good.

If you do this do you have the "fast boot" thing checked or unchecked?

(edit) n/m. he got his answer here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...ners-part-2-updates-avail-13.html#post1226628 (/edit)

It's a pretty safe bet that VZW will be pushing another update soon to fix the Sprint branding and whatever else. I'd submit complaints to VZW support ASAP so they can see what's going wrong & maybe fix it.

So, this is the deal: The update occured this morning and jacked up most of my apps.

Solution: Before you accept the update BACKUP all files (contacts, sms/mms, video, pictures and apps). Once you are sure the backup was successful THEN accept the update. Once update is complete you may have to "Factory Reset" your phone (I did) which is why you need to backup all files. Once reset is complete you can now move all your files back to your phone.

Pros: New update makes processing and running of my DInce SUPER fast.
Cons: Had to factory reset my phone and then reload all of my apps. Sucked!

However, my phone is now running super fast and processing is amazing!

I assume that it doesn't need to be checked.

As I reboot with a hard boot (battery removed and sd unmounted) and all the apps came back.

Word had been that anytime the sd card would get unmounted on a battery pull, you would be back with missing apps untill you umounted and remounted the card. thus far, I haven't had that issue since following the instructions I posted earlier.

I got the update this morning and downloaded it right away without doing any backups/moving files/etc and all has been fine.

Only thing I've found so far are two minor issues:
1: When I receive any Gmails emails, the icon in the top notification bar is not the 'G' logo, but a grey envelope?? Anyone know how this can be changed?
2: In everything with text, like K-9 email actions menu showing Delete/Edit/Forward/etc, the stock keyboard and anything else showing text has the front size smaller across the whole phone?? Don't like it since I have big fingers and now after reading K-9 emails, I keep pressing two actions instead of one! LOL

Anyways, minor, but not sure why these two items had to change at all with this Gingerbread update

Downloaded at 6AM. So far everything is working good. All apps are working fine. Texting fine. Seems much faster. Boot takes about 1/10 what it used to.

Never had a low space warning until the update. Wth? Don't have a ton of apps, am stock, keep messages down to minimum, clear out cache once in a while. I don't get it.

Last time I saw that on my DInc, it turn out to be a bad app. Don't remember which app, but I remember it was an official Google app that needed updating.

I tried your method and it didn't work. Moved everything to phone (and it worked). Then shut down/battery pull and restarted.

Then moved 1 app (to test it) to SD. Then shut down/battery pull reboot again

When the phone booted back up that app had a generic "android market" app icon and wouldn't open/work until I moved it back to phone storage

I got my update this morning when I got up at 4 am it was there, took about 20 minutes to install on 3g. Sweet!! No bugs , no problems so far all day,On another note I picked up the weather app for free on amazon today, its my new go to weather. All and all an incredibly good day for the dinc OG.

What if this is heaven and we just haven't realized it yet?

Sorry it didn't work....

I have now done this on over 20+ Incredibles today and they all worked.

One thing I will say is when you booted up after moving it back to the SD, you do have to wait a good 5 minutes before it works... This only occurs the first time... after that, on all reboots and battery changes it is fine. It is normal for it to show up as a generic android icon... it will change\ back to the proper app icon. just have to be patient.

i think that i have found an official bug in the DIncs gingerbread update. havent seen much chatter about it yet. but check your google talk app. mine and several others, thus far, force closes every time. the app manager shows Talk at v 1.3.

anyone else seeing this?

Did they totally remove the Facebook for HTC notification with friends update there statues?

I have the Lets golf app on my phone and now it says that it's not an original copy and wont even open. Any suggestions?

Alos anyone know how to change the Gmail notification from the little gray envelope? I miss the other one, it was easier to see.

Thanks!

I also left this under the OTA Gingerbread. I didn't get a chance to download the update yesterday. i got up this morning and my update is gone. Checked under system updates and says phone is up to date but still says running 2.2. Is it possible they pulled back update to fix bugs???

I'm wondering the same thing....My wife got the update, my buddy got the update but, I haven't seen it yet. My wife's is showing the same issues as others under settings. 4.3" screen, 512MB RAM, and in the market it shows Sprint for the carrier recommendation apps. I'm sure Verizon noticed this pretty quick and hopefully they will send an revised update quick.

Updated Wednesday Morning (9/7/11). Since then I've noticed several things:
1. The Gmail notification is now a gray envelope (as others have said). It also will not "stick" in my notification bar. My phone gets the notification and it is in the notification window when I drop it down, but it's not at the top and there's no arrow showing there are too many items up there.

2. Gmail and even SMS are force closing a lot (never had the issue pre-update).

3. And this one is my favorite... Pre-update I would charge my DInc fully (green light), then unplug, power off, and plug in to continue charging (at this point I had an orange light). About 30 minutes later I would have a green light again and would unplug and power on. This would give me about 2 more hours of battery life. NOW, post-update, when long-pressing the power button the options are Power off, Airplane Mode, or Restart (yes, the ring profile option is missing from here - as someone else mentioned). The problem is that when you choose Power Off, the phone acts like it is turning off, but when you power back on, the original first "HTC Incredible" black and white screen doesn't appear (as it does when you pull the batter), it skips to the Green and white HTC logo. Also, on the power on, the phone isn't rebooting, all the apps that were there before are still there. Finally, the last thing to tell it's not working is that when you go to About Phone>Battery the Up Time is not just a few minutes like it would be if you had actually powered off your phone.

Now, I called Verizon this morning about #3 above, and they haven't heard of this and have NO IDEA what's wrong or how to fix it. The only suggestion they had was to pull the battery each time I want to charge the phone that way. Yes, that is a work around, but ridiculous. I hope maybe they have pulled back the update to reissue a better one that fixes all of this.

Anyone else seen this?

What you are seeing is the new FASTBOOT process.

I believe you can turn it off at SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>FASTBOOT.

Try that and see if that solves your problem.

The sad thing is it took HTC & VZW nearly 2 years to push this update, and it's still messed up.
