I am getting one for the wife - just her speed I think...

I'll stick with my ASUS EP121 and ExoPC slates for me.

I was going to buy a nook color. Then I started hearing the amazon tablet rumors.
1. I wanted an e-reader that streams video.
2. I also wanted app and web browsing.
Looks like Kindle Fire is perfect.

If I like it I will buy my kids one for Christmas.
Same price as ipod touch.

Wait for the Nook color 2 announcement before you make a decision.

Pre-ordered the Kindle Fire and Touch. Might change my mind if I hear about a Nc2. either way, it's time to sell the nc via Amazon's fulfilment service. I will miss her.

I'm a heavy user of the Amazon Cloud Player, Amazon MP3, and e-books. At this price point, I'll give it a go. Even if I don't like it, it could be a nice Christmas present for someone. :)

I already ordered one. I figure I have 6 weeks to read about it and really make my decision, but this way I'm in line early if I decide to go through with it.

ditto - & in the meantime, I'll try to hammer out exactly why I want one (other than pure gadget lust).
I've got a Thunderbolt, a netbook, & an original Kindle (which is definitely showing its age)

Yeah, I pre-ordered. This will be my first tablet and my good Kindle experience was important to me giving Amazon the benefit of the doubt. My MacBook will still be my work computer; the Fire will be for light communication, browsing , and play.

Not sure if it's true or not, but I found this in an article on Bloomberg.com:

"Kindle Fire owners will have access to apps from Pandora Media Inc., Twitter, Facebook, and Netflix Inc. (NFLX) Although other competitors like Barnes & Noble Inc. (BKS) can submit their apps, it will be much easier for Kindle Fire owners to find Amazon?s own content. That?s one reason Amazon is in the best position to turn the tablet battle into a two combatant war. "

Yeah, I believe they mentioned, or someone mentioned that some of these companies have had the Fire or a version of it for awhile to develop apps for it. I'm pretty sure we'll see a netflix app on the Fire. Even if it competes with Amazon's Prime Instant Videos, I bet Amazon does not want to alienate Netflix subscribers.

I actually sold my iPad 2 when the Fire was announced and pre-ordered it. Don't get me wrong, the iPad 2 is a very nice device, but I really wasn't using it in the way to justify it's price tag. $199 for the Fire and it does everything I want. Not only that, I like the smaller size, and I won't feel like I have to handle it like a newborn.

I have had a Asus 1000H for several years.
This looks to be more portable.
Have pre-ordered and will see how the speed compares to Jollicloud Linux - both seem be Cloud based.

Preordered mine Thursday. It's a great $200.00 toy. Not worried about 3g..have my X, would like a lil more onboard storage, but will use cloud mostly at home/work. Won't miss mic/cam. MIGHT miss volume rocker.
All in all..can't wait.
What's even bigger is watching the effects this'll have on the slate market products and services. This forces competitors to rethink and out of that, we consumers get more options. Competition is good.
I might even look behind me now if I produced Fruit products.
:)

I don't believe that that infomation is accurate. As it is it would cost Amazon more that 200 dollars to make a single Kindle Fire. But when buying the parts wholesale it's a lot cheaper.

If you read the bloomburg article where amazon unveiled this to the press and had a quick Q&A they dont straight out say it is selling at a loss but strongly imply that they are and that there hoping to make the difference in soft sales after the fact.

I ordered 2. They will be added to our family of tablets which include a Transformer, Nook Color, and iPad.
