OFFICIAL: Motorla Droid getting Froyo next week

I am hoping they will post the update.zip files on AC like they did for 2.1.

Well that requires someone to do the following:

When prompted with the update hit "CANCEL"

Plug your phone into your computer

Mount your SD card

Copy over the Update.zip

Host file

If my phone dies over this update, I will be at a loss for words.
It hasn't been going into recovery mode recently so I don't know.
I hope it works, or maybe I can OTA it somehow, oh and yes; I am rooted.
I regret it though :/

I agree we will have to see it to believe it

If they don't stop trying be so stash with the update I'm thinkin of switching to a Blackberry Bold 9650 and using the Moto Droid for backup until around Xmas when Verizon will unleash something secret they are working on?bcuz the Droid X is cool but is waaay to bulky to stash away in your pocket?

Lol

You're gonna get slammed with ex-crackberry guys in about 3 seconds.

I mean, are you SERIOUS!? You're gonna switch to a BB because of the update speed of the Android OS?

lol ever owned a BB before?

Just went and checked out the Verizon site about the OTA froyo update...and I must say it looks pretty legit

@GenericMessage... no I haven't but I looked @ one in the store and it was pretty cool...just no touch screen...I'm just getting tired of the rumors and bored with knowing how to do so much with this phone...just wanna conquer a new platform I guess I should say. Don't get me wrong Android is the greatest but I want more that's all. I'm the consumer you know..less speculation more changing the world :)

BB really isn't a platform to conquer really. But I gotta say, do what ya gotta do.

But on BB updates never happen........ever really. Trust me.

@GenericMessage...yea well I'm convinced the update is actually coming but I'm the type to try new things and the blackberry had Wi-Fi and 3g support which is all I really need...after all it is just a smart phone. Would love to get my hands on Froyo tho :)

does anyone know if the Froyo update will include additional home screens for the original Droid? Because if it doesn't I'm going to root my phone and load a ROM that does.. It's sad that this phone only has three.

Its August 2nd, 2010.
Anyone received Froyo yet? LOL.
Wait, since I am rooted, I won't get the notification from VZW, right?
I hope someone posts the file on here or I can get it OTA somehow.

New tips and shortcuts widget
Bluetooth voice dialing!
Taking video can now use the LED flash
Faster loading of Java rich pages
270 degree rotation to work with any app
Color coded widget for USB connectivity status
New launcher
Now with 5 home screens

Unrooted Droid, waiting for official froyo update to come out. If I do the official froyo update (when it comes out) then I decide I still want to root my phone will it be the same process as 2.1 or does 2.2 require a new root hack (which of course takes time to develop).

Basically, I want to check out the official release of 2.2 before I decide to root or not.

Bad news ppl...tethering and mobiile hotspot will not be supported in the new Froyo update for the droid!!!!! So if either feature was something you were looking forward to then you may as well Root your droid...I know it sucks but to make it even worse...an IPHONE user showed me this... :(

I saw this this morning. Very bad news for me. Because of company policy, I need a "legal" way to do my remote access. I've been without a way to officially work remotely when I'm away from a public WiFi hot spot since I got my Droid. I had tethering on my Storm1, and because of obvious resions, I switched to the Droid.

I'll probably wait until early October when my NE2 comes due. I also have a second line on a 1 year contract that is upgradeable in November.

Only a few more months without remote access from any place that VZW covers.............

Shocker considering they didn't say they were including it.

I kinda mentioned it like 10 times.

If verizon can't charge you for it, they won't put it there

@GenericMessage...I thought you said something about they may or may not include it...either way I didn't know Verizon wasn't going to include those features but I'm sure you guys can relate...there are other alternatives to get around these minor obstacles..
