Official Signal Strength and Reception Thread

Re: 3G Reception Issues Compared to Other Phones

You guys might want to read this really good piece on signal strength as the GN reports and displays it differently: AnandTech - Investigating the Galaxy Nexus LTE Signal Issue

The latest update to this article explains how the Nexus actually more accurately reports our signal strength and that our older devices more or less falsely reported a stronger signal. A "fix" is coming from VZW to ease our minds of lower signal, but my issue apart from this, is that my data speeds are significantly lower than they were on my OG Droid. I am in a 3G only area, but it takes so much longer to load a web page than it ever did on my Droid...

Any one have thoughts on this?

EDIT: Ok, so after running several speed tests, it appears that my speeds themselves seem to be (somewhat) normal, but that means that it just takes a LOT longer to render a page on the Nexus than the Droid. Should I try a different browser? Attached screenshot of speed tests, 3G only remember.

Man I wish I had your problem. Im in a 3g only are with 2-3 bars consistently and I have download speeds of sub 100 kbops with 400-800 kbps upload speeds. I average probably 200 kbps down but average 500 kbps up. Im starting to think I may have gotten a lemon you can see my screenshot here. http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...799-radio-issue-very-low-download-speeds.html

By the way how does google music work for you?? Im experiencing about 20-25 secs to start a song and then lots of stutters and theyre long stutters. Its weird to see such low upload speeds on your screen shots compared to mine, esp. when youre download speeds are so much higher

Anyone still having issues with the signal

Is it just me or does a signal go out when making a call. I love the phone but I don't know if I can handle the signal dropped the calls I make all the time. My buddy with the nexus says he never had that problem I wonder if it's is my phone

Thx when the call is in progress it sounds amazing then later all my bars go away and grey out and the call ends. It says no mobile network. I'm in a full 4g area. Phx az. I just paid a ton for this phone and would hate to get a refurb in exchange.

As the late Steve Jobs would say, "you're holding it wrong." :D

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I only have 4g at work. That is where I experiance signal loss. Mostly notice data. I hardly ever make calls at work. I am on the internet nearly all day though. 4g drops data all the time and then the signal bar stays grey for 30secs or more just to connect 3g. I don't have any data loss at home, where it's 3g only. No dropped calls at home either.
The thing that makes me mad is my wife can be sitting next to me, with my old Thunderbolt, in a 4g area and have a solid 4bars of 4g. Wether others believe the low bars doesn't = low signal. When my bars are dropping off I have slower than 3g speed.

6 times in 2 days. Twice right in the middle of calls and couldn't even call back. Highly frustrating. Its the only reason I might return the phone. Love it otherwise.

OK so its happened to you guys to. I Aldo love the phone and its annoying I have to wait 30 seconds to call back. I don't know if it is hardware or not. I loose signal like 8 times in a day. I notice it more in areas I rarely frequent but even at my home in a 4g area it sux.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

Im having crazy issue with the signal still. In my house mainly but out an about as well. I love this phone so i've tried alot of things to remedy the issue. I took it upon myself to even go buy a 3g network extender.

To start, without the network extender i had no bars in my basement (Droid 1 always held 1) and 1 bar on the first floor. To compare devices i used my girlfriends Verizon Iphone 4s. That gets 2 bars in the basement, 4 out of 5 on the first floor.

Enter the network extender. I figured being in a basement most of the time it would be a good investment given this phones weaker signal strength overall. But results are mixed. When i first turned it on the signal was pinned on the phone, Granted i was only 10 feet away, but thats what i wanted to see. After playing with the phone for an hour still 10 feet away i noticed the signal was all over the place. 2-3 bars most of the time. Even at 0 bars again for a minute or 2.

Every time i noticed this i would ask my girlfriend to check her iphone. Pinned every time. I still have yet to catch her iphone below full bars immediately around the extender.

Then i went upstairs and thats when more problems started. 1 get 1 bar from the extender most of the time, sometimes 2. But i also get 1 bar from external towers. This must cause the phone to panic on what signal to use because i always drop calls when moving around upstairs. If im still at the dinner table or something the extender usually holds on to the call. But start moving around and its only a matter of time.

Anyone else have issue with this phones signal and have a network extender at home? Like i said before, this phone has been really good otherwise. But if a phone can't make calls properly, what good is it?

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I never once have any call drop issues with my GNex, but i dont use 4g at all either. It looks like the 4g problems people are having and the dropped calls are related. So, simple answer, if you dont want to drop calls, shut off 4g. It will get fixed soon I'm sure, if you can survive till that update then just do it.

I'm dropping data all around..3g, 4g, and wifi. Bars go grey and I get website errors and no connection messages. Happens all day long. Waiting on verizon to get back to me about the issue.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

My wife just got a Nexus 7 hours ago and it still has not shown 4g even though my Thunderbolt has been on 4g the whole time. This thing is so slow and the browser is completely useless. Going to return it this afternoon and get a phone that works, most likely a Thunderbolt.

I would look at the HTC Rezound, Not trying to push a particular phone but I traded my GN in for the rezound and I have 4g signal in areas I never begun to have with my Charge and the GN well it was junk plain and simple. The TB is nice but the Rezound is much more refreshed and improved over the TB in my opinion.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I get a very strong phone signal and much fewer drops than with the Bionic or OG Droid - I get better phone signal than my wife who has an IPhone 4.

However my internet signal needs to be stronger.

I've heard that people who have installed rom's and updated to 4.0.3 have these issues resolved so there is no need to return the phone.

The Rezound has three things going against it for me. The first is no ICS, second it has Sense UI, and finally it is made by HTC.

These phones are digital, and on or off, you either have a signal or you don't.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I think Samsung makes terrible radios for there phone but I will say they only time i have problems with signal is change over from 4g to 3g or wifi to 3g. Also some places I use to get 4g signal from with my HTC thunderbolt doesn't always connect with my 4G
