Official Signal Strength and Reception Thread

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I have had signal issues from day 1 (Dec 15). Love the phone but it gets bad reception in a variety of places and especially in my house, (sons 3g droid is fine, my old LG flip phone fine, Wife's Samsung flip phone also fine).

Besides dropped calls I get occasional squelching and loud clicking noises, as well as being able to hear the person on the other end but they no longer can hear me.

Called customer support, they said they would get back to me. After a week I called back and talked to a tech. The tech thought perhaps it was my handset since other complaints about signal loss in my area were not accompanied by the one way calling and sound effects. She recommended I go back to the Verizon store and get a replacement.
The Verizon store clerk said it most certainly was not the handset and recommended I wipe the phone back to original stock using Factory Data Reset. (She thought I may have screwed up the phone by downloading an app... (have not downloaded many and all from marketplace).
I have not yet reset the phone, but did call Verizon back to see if they could extend my 30 day easy return and exchange until 4.0.3 comes out. That is not an option from their end.
Some folks report no signal problems and others have them. Makes me wonder if the signal problem phones are the first batch, got mine 12-15 am.
Still on the fence about my three options. 1. Wipe the phone 2. exchange for another Nexus, 3. wait for 4.0.3..
Thoughts?

I was having all kinds of wacky radio issues.

I tried everything.. even the leaked radio.

I just exchanged my gnex for a new one and all is well.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I never once had a drop call with verizon for 7 years being with them. I now have 2 drop calls with the nexus. Someone needs to roll out an update and fix the signal problem QUICK!

I have not had this problem but I also only have 3G in my area.
I have heard that 4G is having some growing pains.
It might be the lte and not the phone.
Sound probable?

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

So after tonight I'm convinced the Nexus just generally sucks in lower signal, or network loaded areas. I was visiting a nearby city, and had full bars of 4G and average download speeds right around 20 mb/s. I know this area is less loaded, so the network is less congested.

Got back home an dropped down to two bars, and 10 down.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I just got mine the other day and noticed the reception to be less than stellar also.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

You all need to check cell standby in the battery section and look for percent time with no signal. If it's abnormally high I'd probably want to do something about it before your grace period is over. I did everything I could (LTE, CDMA, Verizon CSRs) before the thing went back. You don't want to be stuck with this for a couple of years.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

What constitutes a high percentage? I've noticed a fair bit of lost data signal (bar indicator goes to completely gray and I can see it says I'm disconnected from the network under about phone - status).

My time without signal is currently reading 2% with a time on of 38m and 1s.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

I'd keep an eye on it. I don't think 2% is bad and some of that might be due to your startup time. With just 38 minutes you may be without a signal for a short amount of time while your phone boots up. My phone is usually 0-1 percent. With the Nexus I was up close to 30% occasionally after several hours. If I'm past 5% I'd be concerned but that's just a guestimate on my part.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

Ugh. My signal never completely drops out but I'm usually at one bar of 4G when indoors. Outside it's much better. Seems like building penetration is terrible with this phone. Have tried with all three radios. Right now my Nexus is at -111 dBm. Thunderbolt sitting next to it is at -86 on LTE. Guess I should roll the dice and try an exchange but it would suck to get one that's worse or has the screen banding or screen color issues. :-\

Question on Signal Issue

I live in a 3G only area and want to get a new phone that will last me for the next 2 years from a technology standpoint. I am torn between the Rezound and the Nexus. I had been waiting for the SGSII ever since I first read about it at the beginning of last year. We all know how that turned out...so the Nexus was the next best thing. I was set to get it until I heard about poor 3G reception and turned my sights to the Rezound which I've heard nothing but good things about except for the smaller dev community. I am having a heck of a time deciding between the two.
I currently have a BB Storm 2 and was wondering if anyone has a comparison of signal strength between the two in everyday use. If I can get the same or better signal with the Nexus as what I'm currently getting with my BB then I'll get the Nexus. If it's going to be worse, then I will be going with the Rezound. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Re: Question on Signal Issue

I'm not an expert, just a consumer, who went from a BB Curve to a Nexus. Obviously the Nexus is light years ahead of the BB in many ways, but as you can see from the forums, there are signal issues that make many of us question whether we would have been better off w/another android.

If I were you I'd try to hold off until Nexus receives an update to "fix" bugs and signal issues. Then check back here and see what people are saying.

Re: Question on Signal Issue

There is a 14 day return window for a reason. Many of us have absolutely no problems with signal. Zero. Zilch. Buy one, and if you find that it has "the signal issue" (honestly, I don't even know what that means -- it seems like there are at least 30 distinct "issues" that people here complaint about), return it and try the Rezound. ;)

Note that I keep mine on 3G much of the time just to save battery, and it performs just as well as my Droid Incredible (which performed just as well as my Storm1).

Re: Question on Signal Issue

Like the above poster said.....there are a lot of us who have absolutely no issues whatsoever. Mine works great in 3g or 4g and switches flawlessly. Its signal strength is as good if not better than my Droid which had the "vaunted" motorola radio. I believe if you look at some of the polls in the threads ( unscientific to be sure) there are more of us who do not have issues than those who do. Of course those with issues are more vocal. Im not going to start a thread titled "my phone has a great signal".

I exchanged twice, one for screen and one for radio. Not much difference it is still pretty bad.

I spoke with a buddy at vzw who is always in top of things and I asked him if it was worth it to exchange my nexus. He told me there should be an update coming fairly soon. Take it for what it is worth.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

That has nothing to do with what many of us are experiencing. I live in a 3G area, use only 3G, and have dropped calls and data drops all the time in an area where I've never had issues before. I'm in a hard spot, since I absolutely LOVE the Galaxy Nexus, but can't live with a horrible signal phone for 2 years. I'm about 60 percent sure I'm trading it in for a Rezound tomorrow, which makes me sad.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

For those who say they have not experienced a signal problem it is possible that it is happening w/o you knowing it. A friend of mine just got a GN phone. We were having lunch is a strong 4G area. I asked him if he was having a signal problem and he said no. Then I took the phone and observed it for a while. It was on 3G in a strong 4G area. Then it went back to 4G and back to 3G. Of course he did not know that and I did not bother telling him about it. We live in the Orange County CA a ver strong 4G area.

Re: Anyone still having issues with the signal

no....when im in a weak 4g area I have 4g. When im in a 3g area I have 3g. My phone switches quickly and holds onto the signal. I have never dropped a call and besides the verizon network outages have never seen my phone lose signal and looking in settings have never seen a lost signal. (ok there is a bunker like area at work that is dead but thats it)
