[OFFICIAL] Tips & Tricks thread

If you have an exchange account that the administer has certain privileges it can cause some options to not be available under your settings. For example I am forced to use a pin due to my exchange requirements and all other unlock options are not available since that is what my job has as its requirements to have my work exchange account on my phone.

because you need to set up secure security with a pin, face, pattern, etc unlock

That makes sense, since I don't use any kind of security, there's no need to keep the screen unlocked for brief periods since it's always unlocked. Just set a pattern lock to test it, and yep that was it. I feel kind of dumb now...:-[

22.If you're not rooted, but want to get rid of those pesky bloatware apps, go to settings > application manager > all, and select the app. Within those settings you can clear the information the app has, then disable the app with the top right button. You may need to uninstall updates before it says disable app though... you can also go to the app drawer, hit menu, then select "hide apps" to hide the bloatware icons you've disabled. -Zoidpilot

How do you re-enable something once you disable it? Thanks...

I didnt see this in the list(s)
You have to bee rooted for this one to work but it will silence the camera shutter.
Use an file exployer app,I use root exployer
Using root exployer go to system>media>audio>UI
Scroll till you see:
Shutter.ogg
Shutter_multiple.ogg
Click in Root exployer on the the "mount R/W " to change to "mount R/O"
then rename those files to :
Shutter.ogg.bak
Shutter_multiple.bak
and no more shutter sound when taking pictures ,to get sound back simply remove the .bak of the files you renamed and sound will be back

How do I do this with say nesoid? I remember having to use an app to get this to work with my old droid x

Just FYI, it's pretty cool that you can reject a call with a text message. When someone is calling, you can drag up a menu from the bottom of the screen that will allow you to reject the call and select a text message to send.

If you're not rooted, just turn the phone to silent before opening the camera. No shutter sound. Works for me!

I used an app called Wiimote Controller to manage the pairing. Worked great.

That's a great feature if they're calling from a mobile phone. If they're calling from a landline not so good... ;) By the way, if anyone uses Astrid Task Manager it will give you a popup when you reject a call that you can set a reminder to return the call. That, to me, is really cool! :)

Does the rejected call not show in the phone log as missed?

Yes it does but I know when I get involved with work I do sometimes forget to return a missed call. I do see the icon but after a while I tend to ignore it. This way I get an additional reminder.

Okay, I gotcha. I've only used the reject text once and thought it still showed as a missed call.
