"OK google" keeps conducting a search whenever I try to send a text

I just purchased the moto 360, and every time I say "OK google, text.....", it will instead conduct a Google search. I've tried resetting the watch, and restarting my phone. Still no luck. Any suggestions??

Have you tried "OK Google, send text to..."?

Yeah I've tried that. All of the other Google commands work, just not the texting function.

What phone do you have your watch paired with? I read somewhere that on certain phones you have to make sure certain apps are authorized to use other apps to perform certain functions. I know that's not a very good explanation, when I paired my moto 360 with my new Nexus 6P I do remember getting a message that said allow this app to use data from this other app or something like that.
