Hi Guys and Girls I'm looking for a little help in ripping DVD's movies to my flash drive to watch on my N7.
I've never done anything like this before so the easier the better. any programs I should download or tips you got will be greatly appreciated.

you need the app - Nexus media importer to get it to read files off a flash drive. It's read only, so you can stream directly, or copy to N7.
you need the app - MX player media player. It supports the most formats.
Rip your DVDs into MP4 containers. They are the smallest, best quality video files.

Good luck.

I got both the nexus media importer and photo viewer. I need help with getting the movie on too the flash drive it's self. I've never burned, ripped a movie to my PC before. Thanks

You'll need more than a photo viewer to watch movies. Try MX player.
As for the PC, I like 123 Copy DVD gold. You can get it a Best Buy. It costs $, but it has a good file converter for devices like the N7.
Are your movies on CDs, or on your HD?

Make your vids into .mp4s with AC3 audio and copy them onto the flash drive.

By the way 'ripped' is getting the file from a CD to the PC.
'Burned' is putting the file from the PC to a CD.

Look at this link about video formats. The comments to the article are informative as well.

does the version you have have a preset for the iphone? that should get you close, if not perfect. I always shoot for the width (pixel width) of my screen, and let the height "float", in hand brake. I don't mind black bars as long as people don't look out of proportion. :) use h.264, IIRC . feature length movies will take about an hour or more to encode. sorry, my newest laptop doesn't have handbrake on it at the moment, so i can't check the program itself.

I haven't been too worried about the size of the videos that I have formatted to use OTG off a 16gig thumb drive. Even as a .mkv, they only go 1.5g. They can come and go off my thumb drive so easily, who cares?
I use OTG just so I don't have to worry about space on my N7.

You can't. It's read only, and only then if you download an app.
I wish you could use it to store apps and app data.
