OK. Now that the TB is old news - when will the fixes come?

Verizon finally got this phone launched. A month has passed, the TB is old news.

So now what?

When do they start fixing the bugs.
When do they deliver the features not given at launch.
When does Gingerbread come.

How long after a new Droid launch does HTC and Verizon forget about it and move on to the next new phone. Leaving TB owners to dangle with the remainder of their contracts.

How long until the TB diehard's start "hating" their beloved "outdated" phones.

Since the Bionic still hasn't launched, I think that we're still the new kid on the block, at least in Verizon-land. However, that doesn't answer any of your questions,

I'm confused... why do you seem to be so hostile and pessimistic in your post?

GB is supposed to come in May/June per the rumor on the street and from Verizon insiders. I am personally not having any major issues with my phone so I'm just sitting back and waiting. The GB update will probably also have many "fixes" (again my phone doesn't really need fixed per se) with it as well as Skype and possibly Google Music.

What is gingerbread going to add to the phone? To me it didn't seem like gingerbread is a big improvement over froyo. I'll be happy was Skype gets there video app to work so that i'll have a reason to use the front facing camera.

the only fix i care about on my phone now is the sound quality when video taping everything else works fine on my phone.

The OP might be referring to the data issues, like where it cuts off for no real reason. I know i've had a handful of issues myself. So i've left 4G disabled except for when i need it. The amount of times the phone switches from 4G, to 3G, to 1x, to a bunch of Bars with no data, yet magically when i disable 4G, and switch to CDMA (auto PRL) it locks onto 3G and never dissapears in the same areas where it claims it doesn't have data. This is the main reason i haven't returned my phone, i truly believe it to be software related and the way the software interacts with the radio. Then there is probably also an issue with VZW and their eHRPD. Otherwise, the phone works flawlessly for me :) I love this phone!

I think the key word is "seem" - I am not hostile at all, as to pessimistic? OK, I'll give you that one. ;) My pessimism stems from Verizon's; promise GREAT / deliver without any "major" problems.

I'm glad you are not having any major issues with your phone. I would like mine to work as advertised and get timely updates - both of which have yet to be realized.

Great question, what will Gingerbread add???

HTC and vzw have been doing a pretty good job of keeping their devices supported. the Incredible was released over a year ago and is still receiving updates and even the GB 2.3 os update this summer.
I do not foresee the thunderbolt being unsupported for a few years at least.. not to mention VoLTE (voice over LTE) should be coming for the thunderbolt and other lte devices in a year or 2. :)

there are quite a few things being added. most of it is for devs. and there are a few posts on the exact list. feel free to search google or the forums.

the main thing is GB should be coming with some tweaks for power management that should help us bolt users steal a few more hours of life from our 4g power house.

there are a few more things like some os optimization and what not. it will def be a good update for us :)

Thanks, that is reassuring to hear.

Better battery life would be a HUGE welcome, even an extra half hour of use time would help me get through my work day.

Video recording that I can HEAR would be nice too.
Video phone calls would be great, again, only if the person on the other end can HEAR me.

Great question, what will Gingerbread add???

I asked this same question in another thread and got this info:

here's a quick list:

User features
New on-screen keyboard. The standard keyboard has been greatly improved in Android 2.3, with faster input and more intuitive typing. Even cut-and-paste got a makeover.
Streamlined user interface. New color schemes and various UI changes and polish make Android more consistent and simpler to use.
Application and power management. Android 2.3 provides better insight into what is running in the background, how much memory and CPU time it is using, and even lets you kill misbehaving apps. Yes, after months of telling us we don?t need a task killer, they give us a task killer. Enjoy your chuckle, iPhone fans.
SIP Internet calling. Voice over IP is integrated directly into Android 2.3. Unfortunately you?ll have to get a SIP account from a third party, and the ability might be curtailed on some carriers.
Download management. All your downloads from your browser, email, and other apps, can now be viewed and controlled from one place.

Developer features
Native development. The ability to write Android programs or parts of programs isn?t new but in Android 2.3 it gets a huge boost with Release 5 of the Native Development Kit (NDK). For example you can now receive input and sensor events, produce sound, manipulate 3D graphics contexts, access assets and storage, and more all from native code. They even added a NativeActivity class that lets you write your lifecycle callbacks in native code.
JVM speed. For Java developers, 2.3 adds a number of speedups, most notably a concurrent garbage collector. According to Google garbage collection pauses will be under 3ms, which is small enough not to be noticed in a 30fps or even 60fps game. New JIT optimizations make Dalvik code run even faster than before.
Faster event distribution. In previous versions of Android, just holding your finger down on the screen would cause whatever program was running to slow down, sometimes dramatically. This is all fixed in Android 2.3.
Multimedia. Rich audio effects like reverb and headphone virtualization can be applied to local tracks or globally across multiple tracks. The platform adds built-in support for VP8/WebM video, plus AAC and AMR wideband encoding. Also, there are now official APIs for accessing the front and rear cameras. There is some limited support for extra large (tablet and TV) displays.
Near Field Communications (NFC). In Japan, NFC is a Big Deal, and the hope is that it will catch on in the rest of the world too. It has all kinds of uses, for example with the right hardware and software you could use your phone as a replacement for your credit card to make point of sale purchases. Using the NFC API apps can respond to NFC tags embedded in stockers, posters, and even other devices.

note: TB doesn't support NFC

thanks to project.in.process.

I ran the leaked GB rom on my Evo and it really didnt change much of anything. A few different colors, menus & animations and whatnot. The battery seemed a little better but aside from that not much changed.

Well technically, aside from LTE it was already outdated when it went on sale. Its basically the Evo with an updated processor and more ram. Dont get me wrong I liked it but between the two the differences were pretty marginal aside from the 4G speeds. And if you look at the phones coming out over the next two months with the SGS2, Bionic, Evo 3D, etc.. well it is what it is. Not to say its not a good phone, just about 8 months behind the times.

I'm happy with this phone and haven't noticed any bugs. Wouldn't mind Skype and Netflix. Not a big deal though.

In defense of the OP, there are issues with the TB. 2nd party on phone call can't hear you if you have headphones connected - this was not an issue with the Incredible.
Free Wireless tethering/free hotspot was possible on the Incredible (though not quite legal and can't be considered an issue really...), randomly dropped calls in full 4bar signal area...
While there have been many great improvements, it seemed that QC started from scratch on this phone and lost some necessary functionality. The only reason I changed from the Incredible was to get the bigger screen size with the INC guts. Some of the guts got lost in the shuffle.
I do believe HTC and VZW do pay attention to consistently reported issues and work toward a correction update(s).

You miss understood what I was saying - or i didn't say it well enough.

When I said "outdated" I was speaking of a few more months down the road, these things are "outdated" very quickly and people lust after the next great promise.

I WAS thinking very hard about returning it, but in the end, decided to keep it warts and all. I am getting used to it, but that doesn't mean I HAVE TO "LOVE" IT. It's just a phone.

I too have had a lot of cell phones in my life, however the best one was probably my first one some time in the mid to late 1980's - it was my best only because it was my first. Kind of like my best car (although, that is a toss up between my FIRST car, a '62 Dodge Valiant and my first NEW car a '79 400 four barrel four speed trans AM)

I know some people here are very passionate about their choice of cell phones, I am not. Droid is not a team sport and I am not going to cheer for a cell phone.

I made my decision to buy the Thunderbolt and I am going to stick with it for a while, until something else comes along that better fits my needs.

In the mean time, if no one complains about the problems, "they" will see no need to spend money to fix them.

I hope that clears things up a bit for you.

Gingerbread changes will be mostly sub-surface. If changes are wanted in the GUI, then you're wanting a newer version of Sense UI.
