so if the rumors are true that Tegra 2 is having problems with LTE, why dont they scrap the DX2 instead, and just remove the 4G antenna from the Bionic, keep everything else the same, physically and internally.

I really couldnt care less about 4G if i can have me that sexy hardware.

Because the DX is a proven sales leader, and the Bionic isn't. Your opinion aside, the DX has sold a ton of units, and neither Motorola nor Verizon would risk changing a successful formula. Not to say your opinion isn't valid, just that it doesn't really matter to the pencil pushers who make these decisions.

Because the only reason the Bionic is as 'fat' as it is is because of the LTE radio. No one's going to want a chunky phone that can't do anything more than a phone that's significantly thinner.

actually for me personally i like that the bionic is fatter. I like that i have a nice grip on it.

Also other reasons for it being fatter, can be that it uses S-GPS as oppsoed to A-GPS, and desktop grade ram.

I don't think you're alone, but there's still no way they'll drop the DX2 for a stripped down Bionic. This just reinforces my own view that they should have always made the Bionic more of an Atrix clone (specifically with a 4" screen), as then pushing out a on-LTE version (if that is indeed the primary problem) would have been easy and acceptable, as it wouldn't have overlapped with the DX2 so much. And being the first Verizon dual core phone it would still have been pretty sexy.

Hey wait a minute. I want an LTE device!! :)

Think of it this way, hope for even BETTER hardware THEN you can say......Bionic what? I want_this_thing!!! :)

I want Bionic to be Bionic and i want Targa to be Targa.

If they want to slip Targas internals into the Bionic and call it the bionic that is fine by me, hopefully no longer than late July though, cause im going crazy.

The Bionic without LTE would be pointless IMHO. Having a very powerful computer I built choking on a slow connection has made me realize that the network is even more important than the device itself. I live in an area where wired internet just isn't that fast, even if you get the highest bandwidth DSL or cable, don't really know why, but speedtest says I'm way above the average here, and its still quite slow. Its very likely that LTE, which I'm scheduled to get late summer, will be even faster than my ATT Xtreme DSL is here. Either way, I really want to lock myself into an unlimited LTE plan, which is why I've said I'd just get a T-bolt or Charge over even a DX2 if there isn't a dual-core LTE device by the time unlimited is over.

As others have said also, there isn't room in VZW or MOTO's product portfolio to launch another high-end full-touch device without the distinguishing factor of LTE, IMHO.

Slip some beefy internals in either and I'd be happy. Dual Core goodness propped up by a gig of RAM and a nice screen and call it a day ;)

Um, the whole point of the Bionic was that it was going to be a flagship LTE device. Just look at all the hubbub it got at CES. Removing the LTE radio from it would be a slap in the face to Verizon and Moto.

Seriously right? Samsung can't be the only manufacturer to figure that out.

Moto needs to step up to the plate and give us some hardware otherwise its Galaxy time for me.

Dont do it stay strong targa ftw. What am i talking about im not buying another device unless its nexus or has an unlocked bootloader.

Ok fine then, scrap Dx2, take the bionic, remove 4g, throw in a 3g antenna, and call it a DX2.

Doesnt matter, i just want what was supposed to be the bionic.

Does it matter if it had the same shell as the dx2 and the Bionic their the same phone minus shell and lte

Actually there's a good chance the GS2 will be better than the Targa anyway. Hard to say whether Exynos is better than OMAP4, as the latter is not out yet. Exynos is better on paper than Targa 2 in most every way, it just doesn't have the driver development yet since its so new. Both have 2 Cortex-A9 cores with NEON, while Tegra 2 is an A9 but does not have hardware NEON support. So they should be very similar, Samsung may actually have the edge if they manage to avoid the firmware and driver issues that plagued the first galaxy s.

Its unlikely that the Targa will have a comparable screen to the beautiful S-AMOLED+ on the GS2, especially if its rushed to market earlier to fill the gap left by the Etna-Bionic, again if it is even cancelled. TouchWiz 4.0 is actually looks pretty cool from what I've seen, and Samsung tends to release the source code for all their devices, making custom ROM's an easy option. MotoBlur, however, shows no signs of being any more useful, and MOTO likes to lock and encrypt their bootloaders, making hacking them difficult. I haven't heard anything to support the idea that the Targa is unlocked other than wishful thinking. Other than that, everything else seems pretty similar, with a possible aesthetic advantage to Samsung and a durability advantage to Moto, based on current and recent devices.

Not saying that the GS2 is better or worse, we still know very little about the Targa, or if in fact it actually exists in the form we believe it to. I agree Samsung has had their issues in the past. But if they get a superior dual-core LTE device to the market before Moto, or around the same time, I see no reason not to get it unless it appears to have similar issues to their earlier phones. Samsung is an enormous company, and they certainly have the wherewithall to have addressed and corrected the software issues they had in the past, after seeing how it affected sales.

: ) yeah but the SII is a pretty stout piece of hardware. I think it is one of the best pieces of hardware next to the LG Optimus 3D. Spec wise it is an impressive handset. When it hits VZW network it will be handsdown the best Android phone in their line-up UNLESS Moto surprises us.

LG and Samsung are about to become some big players in the Android world. Moto needs to step up to the plate and quick. Trust me I'm a big Motorola fan but the Samsung is just a superior product.

I have a fascinate for all the non update crap this is a great device much better than my d2 running gb. I also agree motorola needs to step up the Optimus 3D and sgs 2 are beast. And to open As far as the Tegra2 being better than the OMAP not on your life look at the Optimus 3D benchmarks its a beast the dualchannel memory and the ability to clock the cores at different speeds is the killer.

Look wise, Targa looks wayyy better than DX or DX2. I dont like the hump but Targas hump is better.

One thing i dont like about the Targa is the edges. If you look closely, it is double edge. The inner one is rounder, and then the outer one sharper. One reason why i love the bionics looks are because the edges are rounded much more than other phones.

Also if you just look at the Targa from the front, it looks like an iphone with the chrome bezel. I dont like that.
