Older newbie

Hi Guys, I joined so I can learn how to root my optimus s. I am an older guy that is not to tech savvy. I want to try this to expand on the phones internal memory by getting rid of stuff I don't need and moving as much as I can to my sd card. I had an HTC inspire but had to give it up due to change in finances. I got the phone free though Kroger and I-wireless. Any pointers you guys can give me would be great. I have been reading on how to do this but have not done it yet out of fear I will do something wrong and mess up the phone. Thanks redtrucker.
