OMG my camera lens is shattered!

Mine is not just cracked it shattered and I have to be extremely careful because if you saw the pic I posted of my lens yours be surprised too that I can still take pics. I'm don't think I can post 2 at one time but the first one is regular setting, the 2nd one is wide angle.

When they crack they on the G5 they always shatter. Some more than others but the focal point is usually the same.

With all the phones I have had over the years I 've never had this happen to me but my rear camera lens is shattered! I have no idea how it happened as I have had it in a case since I took it out of the box. I have only taken 3 pictures with it previously as I haven't had a whole lot of time to even mess with it and I went to take a picture this evening and the color seemed a little washed out so I thought there might be plastic over the lens and thats when I noticed it. It is not just cracked but shattered like a windshield would do. I am sick, the only thing I can do is pay the insurance and get it replaced or maybe go to my TMobile store and see if they can help. Can a camera lens be replaced? Maybe I should have stayed with Samsung......:'( Any suggestions?

I hate to say this but Jerry rig kinda predicted this:

I would ask for a warranty exchange on it for sure! Sounds like it's a legit issue to me.

I did and at this point they won't replace but repair yes. I'm waiting on an approval from corporate. The parts aren't even available yet.

He didn't predict squat....he etched it with a sharp tool.
Same type of scratch from sand. Probably best to avoid beaches or anywhere else that might have the stuff. If this really is a problem, we should start seeing more posts about it and media reports in the next few weeks, as more devices are out there and more time used.

BTW, the the implosion of the glass in the video almost seems like the glass module is vacuum sealed. Watch how the glass collapses inward.

This one is wide angle
, regular setting one didn't post so I guess you can't post 2 at once. Will repost again...

Lets try this again.....

Depends on how the glass is stressed to be scratch resistant. That tension "pulls" it.

It's not a vacuum seal but a slight vacuum could develop during install because as the glass is pressed into place some air from the lens area may get pushed out....kind of like burping a Tupperware container and may cause a slight vaccuum but not enough to cause an implosion. I'll have to go back and take a look at the video.

Sorry for them being turned, that's not the way I took them and they are reversed.
1st one is wide angle with the prism effect on the bed...
2nd one is a regular shot
Looks as though the actual lens suffered no damage so I am hopeful with the repair that the camera will perform as it is intended to do.

Let us know how you made out

I'm still waiting on a call from LG but store rep said they would fix it if LG wouldn't. I don't think I need a new phone as a matter of fact I'd rather just keep mine and let them replace the lens.

I think it's using cheap material. I have a phone pretty much useless without the camera. I will get it fixed when the part becomes available but I still think it's a manufacturer flaw and they should be responsible.

I don't think its about being cheap....it is very thin and a poor design
