OMG my camera lens is shattered!

That's the way mine started, for no reason and now my camera on the right is completely uncovered because the glass keeps cracking to the point it comes off in tiny flecks so I took off as much as I could to keep those tiny flecks from getting down into the camera parts and damaging any moving parts. The camera works but the wide angle lens shows a reflection (like a prisim halo) of what you are pointing at because of of the remainder o the cover that is still on there. It's such a shame they won't take responsibility. I have a phone just a few days old with a camera that is actually worthless like this. I can't even enjoy taking pictures.

Sounds like LG to me.

Yes, I have checked but they don't even have a replacement available yet. I am not filing a insurance claim and anyone else that runs into this problem should not either. They want to charge you $175 deductible for a $50 part so that is totally out for me. I took mine to a "YouBrokeIFix place and they guarentee they can fix it so as soon a s they get the part they will call me.
The guy at the repair store said a lot of times they can use parts from other phones but with this being the first of a new camera design there aren't any they can use so we have to wait until they can make them available. It's just a shame they are blaming the consumer for this and not the fact that there is a design flaw. I'd rather have my Note 7 back. I will continue to keep calling LG on this whether it goes anywhere or not. All I wanted was to return (buyer's remorse) but with the lens cover like it was they wouldn't let me. I should have stayed with Samsung....

You need to just bite the bullet and stop whining. Its getting old. That camera shop will end up being $100 after taxes and all, and who knows how long before the part arrives. Then you will be the first test dummy to see if they do it right. Sounds like your camera lens might need replacing too.
For $75 more, you will be sent a brand new phone if you hurry. Its only a matter of time before they start sending refurbs and 2nd hand units.

And you are crying about missing Samsung, which just did the largest recall in phone history and left customers stranded with no devices. And all those Samsung S7 and other models with THOUSANDS of broken camera lens. And I like Samsung, but i'm just pointing out the hypocrisy from your post.

I haven't been in contact with LG to see if I can get a replacement piece from them or when to expect them to come around, don't even know if it's worth it. But I definitely am not enjoying having the lens shattered that's for sure. I doubled up some packing tape and trimmed it with a sharp razor blade to at least keep it from coming apart (there's an indent over the wide angle lens so I wanted to keep it from damaging it) and I'll probably keep using it for now.

I'll probably order like 10 camera lenses just to have some on backup 🙈

Once the part from LG comes out it will run about 20 dollars. Aftermarket replacement about 8 dollars. Some of the aftermarket are actually plastic which eliminates the breakage issue but I believe the plastic ones affect image quality.

Was referring if taking to a repair shop. Obviously cheaper if you do it yourself.

Its called principle. I wouldn't pay LG out of spite. Its their defect. Besides I doubt that place will charge $100. The parts probly only going to cost $10 so if she can get it fixed for $50 she might as well. Why are you saying she is whining? If you don't wanna hear about the glass cracking problem get out of this thread then or at least stop being a jerk about it. The woman is sad her new $800 phone has a defect. Leave her alone if you do not want to help her.

More reports on Reddit of the lens glass breaking as well. This is a manufacturing problem, so LG should be held accountable. I must admit having to check your post history first in order to see if trolling, since the timing is convenient in relation to the issue.

Just like the N7 battery, most in the forum for the device are initially incredulous to the matter, but this seems to be more than the small percent of Note 7s. Samsung pushed over a million in the first week and LG is at best pushing 100,000 and that is being optimistic.

As I posted before, LG needs to address this now or watch sales plummet. If they do not own it and support customers 100%, they will regret it.

My BB V20 is still in preorder / in progress stasis, but will not open the box unless LG covers all damage to the camera glass without impacting warranty and no deductible. If have to mail this in for repair I will not bother going through this again. Already did twice with the Note 7. Somehow do not sense will get the same support with LG.

Petty vent finished.

OMG! Its like the worst year for phones. lol

Well not sure where to actually post it but I certainly will post it anywhere to get the word out that it seems that the lens is cheaply made. I don't misuse my phone and didn't find anything in my purse that would have punctured the lens hard enough to cause it shatter like that.

unless you carrying bricks or a 9mm like i am their is no reason why your lens should shatter that easily.when ive been in a hurry ive dropped my phone in my bags or purses. they get jostled around and come out unscathed. or even if im got groceries in the car i'll put my phone in one of the groceries bags no issue. so for this to happen so easily does make us wonder.

I've dropped mine twice now, both times on my hardwood floors. The phone broke up into three pieces, the battery, back cover, and the screen. Both front and camera glass had no scratches at all.

I was really nervous on the 2nd time, because I had the phone in my lap, got up really quick and it went flying. Landed directly on the back. That back metal cover made the loudest, shattering sound you could imagine. I thought for sure it had to be broken. But it didn't.

Assuming the part becomes available, a cracked camera lens cover seems to be quite easy to repair. In fact, it appears the V20 is one of the easiest phones to repair in general, a relatively skilled person can do it with just a screwdriver.

It's most likely a bad batch of phones that somehow passed through QA. All the other phones are perfectly fine, even some that went through drop tests (to prove the shock resistant military grade) from 6 feet high and camera lense cover was still intact.

The fact of the matter is we all take a huge risk when we buy a phone within weeks of the release date. If we all keep this up, we're bound to run into some QA issues at some point. If you want to avoid any QA issues, it's best to wait for at least a month before making a phone purchase. For example, if anyone had waited for at least a month they could have easily avoided the N7 battery fiasco or even some of the G5 issues.

I agree. If you take note the ones they were cracking, shattering, etc, were all pre-orders and we got them almost 2 weeks ahead of the release date. That makes me wonder if we were just guinea pigs.... 😁 I don't know... But this was my first LG and it will be my last.

You may be on to something. Mine was not a preorder (finally found the only one available within 100 miles on October 30), and, so far, my camera lens is fine (fingers crossed).

Don't know if this will be relevant, but the box my phone came in indicates a manufacture date of 09/2016, titan grey, AT&T, made in Korea.

I wonder if maybe the manufacture dates, etc. of the units with the cracked lenses have something in common.

One of my V20s was a pre-order and its been dropped on carpet twice. Its still completely blemish free.

I had seen the videos of the G5 replacement and it looks like there's a little more work involved with this one but in a good way. The plastic piece looks like no trouble to remove and would make replacing the glass piece super easy.

I had emailed LG Friday and they responded saying I could send my phone in for repair, when all I asked was whether or not it would be possible to get a replacement piece of glass because I felt confident doing the repair myself. Maybe I'll try calling support in the morning and just raising hell without shooting expletives at the person on the other end of the line and just explain to them that I'll happily pay for a new lens, I just want to fix it and be done with it and not send my phone in. Really do enjoy this phone but it's a huge inconvenience not being able to use the camera.
