On my 6th GNEX ...has anyone ever got one that's a Phone?

I'm on my second GNex. The first got returned due to not being able to hold the signal while on 4G. Basically, the signal would just dropout and reset while using data or calls. My replacement works perfectly.

I'm on my 3rd VZW Gnex

First one was perfect, but I stepped on it.

Second one had issues with not recognizing the sim card

3rd one is what i have now, and works great.

Got mine on launch day and besides a couple dropped calls when new and a few reboots it has been fine. No problem that won't go away, no mic cutting out problem at all. And I use it has a phone and a toy all day long! And some of my days are pretty long including 17 and 20 hour work days.

Mine and my wifes has kicked butt since launch morning......No data issues, no phone issues....just simply the best phone experience I have ever had.....been lucky I guess.

I've had mine since launch day. The only problem was annoyingly low volume on the bluetooth dialer-- almost impossible to hear the "speak now" voice if using bluetooth while driving, and similarly impossible to hear it repeat (usually inaccurately) the name of the person being called. I re-paired it with the bluetooth after receiving 4.0.4. Problem solved.

Had mine on launch only complaint is reception I do have bad call quality crackles a bit but other than that fine I love this phone

It took me 4 Gnex's to finally get a good one. The first three all had the breaking up/squealing thing, and the mic cutout. I believed that it was location dependent- until I got a good one. Now I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem that an earlier batch had, and VZW is just sending these phones out, and they keep coming back. To be re-certified. Factory new. Again. And again.

Strommer,

that is what i am thinking..i don't think they duty cycle the refurbs to see if the call quality is there. i think they just flash them and re-mail them out...

so you finally got a good one?

The problem isn't the phone it's you. I would believe one bad phone, maybe two, but not 6 with the same problem. There must be some other cause, maybe the signal quality sucks where you live, maybe you are holding the phone wrong, maybe there is some setting or app that's causing the problem. You need to figure out what's really wrong because it's not the phone.

I'm on board with the notion that VZW or whomever is the insurance provider keeps recirculating defective handsets in the CLN pool. Enough people have returned multiple gNexi. Seems Sammy had fairly poor QC on an amazing device. Glad to see people keep returning them until they get one that works properly. It's the people who complain and complain so much on the net, don't ever return their defective device, and pray a software update will fix a hardware issue that's frustrating. Fortunately, I'm one of the quiet majority that received a proper unit on launch day.

Yep, #4 works like a charm. The first was bought on release day, at the local VZW corporate store. I returned it to the same store a few days later for a different, and brand new phone. The same problem with #2, but I kept it for awhile because Verizon customer service kept telling me that a software update was eminent and the problem would be fixed.
4.04 came out and the problem was the same as it ever was. I expected as much because I had already flashed the leaked 4.04 without any imrovement.
#3 arrived, and initially I thought I had a working phone! -and posted so here. It seemed better, and it was, but there was always that "clipping-screeching" thing- this time at a lower threshold/volume. Within a week it was back to full-blown, hold the phone away from your ear, screeching- and mic cut-out.
I called and was offered a Razor. I might have taken a Razor Maxx,, but the CSR said Razor only.
#4 has been perfect.I have waited for quite a while after #3 tricked me, but I'm confident this phone really is OK. The screen is a little yellowish (probably the reason fo it being returned) but I don't care, because I Can Make Calls :D
A few notes- I have found Verizon customer service to be top notch. Always pleasant and professional. When/if you call, remember that it is not the rep's fault. Be pleasant and upbeat.
The fact that Phone #2 was Brand New makes me believe that a "Bad batch" got out. It came from the same store, and I have talked to more than a few local people who had the same problems with the Gnex. I think that these faulty phones were distributed to a number of regions, thus the "location based" theory.
@bjrosen - "The problem isn't the phone it's you"- You are wrong. Through circumstantial evidence, you have made an assumption.

Really dude? Seeing that the issues the OP mentions are very common with the GN, I'm pretty sure he has had a series of bad phones.

It took me three before I got a good one.

#7 is being delivered next week, all have had radio drops while on 4g. Happens everywhere I go so it's not location specific and it's not dependent upon signal strength either. Verizon says it's a known issue and are working on a software fix but they don't have an eta, are aware it was supposed to be fixed in 4.0.4 but confirm it wasn't. I think it must be hardware since it seems the majority of nexus owners don't have this issue.

Jeez man that sucks my very first one had that issue exchanged it been smooth sailing since then..

I have had the same gnex since December without any issues... If you are having that much trouble it might be easier for you to just move on to another phone... what I would probably consider the razr maxx or the sg3

OK, I'm on my 6th "phone" from Verizon. Yes..the 6th.

I'm a victim of the dreaded Microphone Cut Out Problem (MCOP) and it's killing me. This one I received on Saturday and the FIRST DANG CALL i made on it dropped the mic.

Has anyone gone through this and actually finally received a working phone?

Verizon wants to put me in a Rezound. I played with one yesterday in the store..no offense to rezound owners, but i might as well get a Cricket phone instead..

Is there hope that i will ever get a working phone? Looking for a success story (if it exists).

I'm still using the one I got launch day and have only 1 problem with it; it hasn't gotten Jelly Bean yet.

My brother has had a Gnex since December,..I've had mine since march. neither of us have had a problem with are phones and we are heavy users. The phone has so far been the best phone ive ever had.
