l33l how do I stop the phone from going dark while charging?

If I could keep the phone from going dark while charging, I could keep the phone on charge while talking.

Not quite sure what you mean, but in settings -> general -> "developer options" there is an option called:
"Stay Awake" (Screen will never timeout while charging)

If you do not have developer options in your menu, tap on the "Build Number" (under settings -> general -> about phone -> software info) option a few times till it appears.
