While on vacation in Hawaii last week, I plugged my phone into the charger and went to bed. The next morning I woke up (always a good thing) and the phones display was turned on at the FASTBOOT screen. I can navigate the menu using volume up down and power buttons but cannot get phone to reboot. The phone is totally stock and has never been rooted or modded. Here is what is displayed:

*** LOCKED***
M8_UL_CA PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-3.16.0.0000
RADIO-INVALID_VER_INFO
OpenDSP-INVALID_VER_INFO
OS-1.58.502.1
eMMC-boot 2048MB

FASTBOOT

and then the menu information.

Having been on vacation I have lots of Hawaiian pictures that were not backed up on Google, (don't know why) that I do not want to lose.

Now that I am home, I have tried connecting to PC to download pictures. The Android driver installs but does not show me any files. I also tried HTC Sync and it tells me no phone is connected. I have tried multiple USB cables.

Am I totally screwed? Can anyone help?

Hello!

If you are in fastboot mode, do you see an option in the menu that says "bootloader"?

wizrah,

There is no bootloader option. Maybe I'm calling the screen wrong. The options I have under HBOOT are FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, FACTORY RESET, SIMLOCK, CHECK SMARTSD, IMAGE CRC and SHOW BARCODE. When I select FASTBOOT I get the following: HBOOT, RAMDUMP, REBOOT, REBOOT FASTBOOT, and POWER DOWN. None of the options except for HBOOT, FASTBOOT which flip between two menus and SHOW BARCODE do anything.

Sorry, I was referring to something else. Can you hold the power until the phone shuts off, then power it back on? Does it still boot up to the bootloader screen after that?

If I power the phone off, then turn it on the FASTBOOT screen appears. This has the HBOOT, RAMDUMP, REBOOT, REBOOT FASTBOOT, and POWER DOWN menu items on it and looks like the text in my original post.

I am reaching the conclusion that the emmc chip is probably fried. I have gotten a shipping label from HTC to send it in for a warranty repair. It makes me absolutely sick that I will lose my vacation pics. Still haven't figured out why Google auto backup didn't work. When this happened I checked my wife's phone and Google wasn't backing her pictures up either. Had to switch option from WIFI to WIFI or Mobile even though we were on WIFI to get her pictures backed up.

Thanks for responding.

Dropbox also has the option to upload pic's as you take them.

I'm having the same problem with my M8 right now. Did you ever get it fixed?

This situation just happened to my wife's phone and this is how i got it running again.

On the FASTBOOT screen navigate to REBOOT with the volume button and press the power button to select it.

The phone will... reboot and you should be back in action.
