One major problem leaving Iphone to htc one !!!!!

That's always the case. Apple has always done that in an effort to get people to get iPhone's because their friends and family have them and it will be great... Or my wife has an ipod so I keep my iPhone so we can chat...
I kinda doubt that's been Apple's plan because if that was their plan, it's a terrible one. It's not an obvious feature to people and they've never done much promotion of it. I don't think anyone has ever said "well I guess I'll get the iPhone because it has iMessage." it just isn't that big a feature and hasn't been promoted at all.

Who knows, we'll see what Apple does with it now that all the litigation is done... for the moment.

That's not what I meant. It speaks to their philosophy as a whole. I had iPhone's for years and I enjoyed iMessage. The best marketing they did for it was not advertise and let people just enjoy it. When you get used to it it's yet another reason to just stick with idevices.

I guess we all have different meanings of the word "major". This seems overdramatic of not using a phone, despite ALL its benefits, because it doesn't handle sending videos well. Maybe because I don't share video often. I typically just YouTube it and send the link for all to view.

What's funny, is that the premise of the argument is that, "if it could send video to my iPhone I would buy it and replace my iPhone".. well, if you did that, the test would be irrelevant because you would no longer have an iPhone to send the video to. You'd be able to use beam via NFC or any of the myriad of apps that support this transfer, such as Google Doc's, Google+, Dropbox, etc. (All of these would solve the problem currently as well, but I have a feeling no one wants to know how to get it to work, given that if it were to work, the experiment would be invalidated by removing the offending cause of the issue, the iPhone)...

You kinda missed the point. The OP acknowledged that Dropbox might work, but that is a completely different user experience from shooting video, sending to friend, friend views video. The Dropbox method will work, but there's more steps involved and isn't as user friendly.

So what your telling me is that andriod are now boasting up to 8 cores and are said to be the best but can't send a video to whatsapp or email ! And sending a link is the only way round it ?.. Even though I really want a htc one I think I'll stick with ios as its too much f'ing around

Um? no. Android doesn't have any problem with this; iOS is the problem here. You could use a file transfer to send a file between an Android phone and a computer or between multiple Android phones, but Apple restricts file transfer on the iPhone. You could even use NFC with Android phones, but Apple didn't implement that on the iPhone.

Thanks, i tried to say that in my post by referencing beam, along with other incredibly simple solutions, but the response was, "no, it has to be an iMessage clone. Honestly, why would you want to download your friend's video to watch it once? I'd much rather watch it through Google+ or YouTube... guess I don't want a bunch of storage taken up on my device by other people's nonsense. Instant upload on Google+ means that it's automatic, and all you have to do is share the video you want with whoever the person is and they can watch it whenever they want, without ever needlessly downloading it.

I just like all the exclamation marks.

Also, I can't wait for the demise of SMS messaging.

That is all.

You kinda missed the part about NFC. Don't know what's simpler than putting your phone against your friend's and tapping the screen.

And how do you do that when you're 500 miles apart? Seriously, why can't some people admit that there are things that iOS does better? This is one of them. This is crazy easy iPhone to iPhone. I understand where the OP is coming from.

For me personally, the Dropbox solution would be fine, but that isn't what their looking for.

I'm not saying that it isn't easy with iOS... I'm saying he doesn't want to leave iOS because his brother's Android can't send video in exactly the same way that an iPhone would to the iPhone that he would no longer have were he to migrate... making it a moot point. What iOS could or could not do ceases to be a factor as soon as you stop using it. Android to Android will work 100% flawlessly. Dropbox is indeed more difficult than the Google+ option, though not by much because it's only one extra step. The Google+ option is the exact same number of steps as iMessage and is actually better, because it doesn't clog up storage on two devices, it's stored, for free, in the cloud.

I agree with that. Sometimes local storage is better than cloud, but that's really a minor point.

Also, went does it sound like maybe the video being uploaded may have been while out and about on a cellular network.

Last I checked, any files for upload or download over 20 MB on a cellular network would get an error message saying that the device needed to be on Wi-Fi to handle file that large.

Not sure if LTE has the same limitations as a 3g network.

So in a sense, it may not be an issue with WhatsApp, but rather the network.

Also, don't expect Apple to share iMessage with any other platforms. They are going to do everything they can to keep Cupertino in the race for cellphone dominance. There are already apps on other platforms that work the same/similar as iMessage, as all it is is a threaded MMS service (some call it a group messaging service).

Window Phone 8 has the same ability cooked into the OS as well. Android apparently does as well, but that could be manufacturer specific as well, not sure.

BlackBerry was essentially BBM for years, and was its bread and butter along with their email and calendar integration in their OS.

People will believe what they want to believe, that is the issue. If the OP believes there is no easy way to send a file that large, then he will stick with ios because that is what he knows. I find it to be rather hard to wean someone off of the Apple teat, as the whole ecosystem is like a black hole. Once you start getting sucked in, you usually can't get back out, then just convince themselves that everything is so much easier on ios than having to start a new device with an unfamiliar OS.

If all Apple devices were to disappear from the earth tonight, I could see people jumping to their deaths like the 1929 stock market crash.

Okay, maybe not, but some seem that committed.

Sorry for the long post.

It's not wrong to fondle the s pen.

Guys
Thanks hp again for your advice, I'm not what you call a apple fanboy I've had a 3GS and now 4s for the last two years and now getting very tired of the out dated iOS which never changes.
The reason I'm asking is because I'm after the htc one and there doesn't seem to be a easy straight forward way to send and receive short videos between me and my bro who lives over a hundred miles away as we do know with iMessage ,by taking the video hitting send and boom done .
It just seems you have to go round the houses on the andriod platform for such a simple task that's all.
But all in all loving the htc one from the time I've had with it,at least with andriod you get new features sooner than iOS that only drip feed you and still want another ?500 every time they come up with something they've copied and said that they've invented it
Cheers darren

The most simple way is Google+. Instead of hitting 'send' you hit 'share', select your brother, it's done. Same number of steps and a more flexible option in my opinion. The only difference is it'll be able to be streamed or downloaded, instead of downloaded or downloaded.

You assume his bro.has Google + acc
I agree with the OP
iOS has this nailed

I love my new HTC one, but I can only email or.viber my mum a 5 sec video of her grandson, and not a compressed 1 min video

With the iPhone it would ask you to grim the video you want to send
With the HTC it just says sorry the video is to big and then exits

I'm sorry but this is crap
I'm a developer by trade and not giving the option to compress or shorten is just lame
I want a simple way to send videos that are compressed

My mum doesn't want to download a 135mb file, so this is just bad design
you can argue all you want how the OP is some fanboy but it has nothing to.do.with imesssge
It's.simple usability with ease (and not faffing with uploading to you tube)

Everyone that has access to Google has access to Google+, it is free and a great cloud computing starter course for new to the internet users.

Transmitted through spacetime.

Thanks for the replys guys well most of them, do you think google will ever bring a service like iMessage to the droid phones?

Hopefully, everyone thought that "Babel" would be the Google product to end sms. Texting does need to go....

Sadly I don't see it going anywhere for along time.

ok well since I read up ton this and didnt see anybody answering the OP post, the answer is very simple ok on IOS as well as WP8 when you are trying to send a video that exceeds the maximum file size, it will automatically compress it for mms sharing, while on android there is an app that will allow you to compress it so you can share it, sorry dont remember the name, but I ran into this problem before and I think is something that google has to fix, yes I did a test with my friends GS3 a lumia 920 and an iPhone 5 and yes the S3 could not get it done and yes all 3 phones shot the same video with the same length.
