one stupid way to have a heart attack

Ok so my headphone Jack is messed up. I took my phone apart to have a look see. When I was prying the case apart I slipped and poked a hole in the middle of my touchscreens ribbon cable (you know the one on the right) ........for about 5 min my heart stoped............but as luck would have it in the exact middle of the cable there are no actual connections.......and that's how I had my first heart attack. I thought I would share it here for your entertainment .......plus its cheaper than therapy.

Sometimes, you just get sooooo lucky! My wife didn't, right in the middle of moving this past weekend, as she rested her month-old Photon on the arm of the sofa sleeper we were on, and she sat up to look for her phone, it was gone!

Panic ensued, as she started a fast hunt, and then looked outside the arm, finding the phone resting in the bottom of her cup of water, 3" deep. Before she could totally freak, I had it, snatched the back off and yanked the battery. It had a bright red water damage sticker. Crap!

I shook the water droplets out as best I could, feeling droplets spray everywhere. I put it in a baggie with dissicant, and hoped for the best.
But all was in vain. After a long drying period, I put my battery in and booted it up.

And the splash screen lit, you could see the heavy water marks in the screen, and errors started popping up on-screen. It was hosed. :(

So, now she has a refurb, and a fear of water near her beloved device. Waiting 3 days for a replacement was torture, and she definitely appreciates having the new one!

That's the panic when you start to drop it while you're takin a pee and you dont know what to do.....Best i ever got was to slap it away. The phone. And no it hasn't stopped me from takin the phone with me, also ive never dropped one in a toilet. The girlfriend knocked her Hero off the back of the toilet into the water a couple years ago. Lucky for us it was summer. I pulled it apart and stuck it in the car with the windows up. Sucked all the moisture out and that phone is still being used on one of her sibling's lines.

I set mine on top of a glass of water as I was prepping to retire for the night, then knocked it into the water when I picked up the glass. I had that thing apart (completely) and had a hairdrier pointed at it in under 5 minutes.... Scared the bejesus out of me!!!

Your only chance to save a device from a soaking is to remove the battery, shake out all you can and drop it in an air tight bag of rice. That may save it enough to retrieve info but don't count on it too long.
Also, since I work on wireless devices for people I've seen my share of watery mishaps so for my expensive smartphone I use a lanyard to avoid such problems. Not a popular look but works likes a champ:-)

i ran mine through the wash in a haste to get some laundry done fast, there was no bringing the phone back from that. luckily i have insurance and got a new one overnighted for 50 bux.

Lol if you think water damage is bad try Pepsi damage. My 2 year old decided my old Samsung Replenish and my fountain drink should be friends. I didn't find it for half an hour. I must say, in my experience, Samsung phones are quite resilient. After extensive surgery on the poor thing I actually got it running again...albeit with severe screen issues :o

I'm sorry, but haaaaa. They hid it and that's funny.

mine slid in a sink at work pulled the battery and put it in the fry warmer for about an hour still alive and kicking months later. similar situation with my old bb curve got soaking wet twice used the warmer lasted about 8 months before I got this phone.

Who cares? It's good conversation, because just about everyone can relate :p

That includes myself. I once dropped a phone in Dr. Pepper. It worked for about a day after, then simply refused to power up.

Oh man my wife dropped her dinc in the toilet and tried to light it up before i caught her. I snatched the battery but not soon enough, she had a dang cover on it that i couldnt get off fast enough. I flew in for a funeral that day before and couldnt take my knife. If i had my knife i would have had that baby filet'd. I did dry it in the rice but it suffered 3g problems and messaging problems after that. Made a great game toy for our grandaughter.
