One thing i don't like about the evo

The one thing that scares me about buying an evo is that this phone is no companies prize possession. Like the pre or iphone, where that phone is their prize, they do all they can to make it the best product out there, constantly updating it and making it better. in 2 months time HTC will have a brand new bigger better phone, sprint will have a brand new bigger better phone and there will be 5 new android phones out there. I don't like how android and HTC's market are so saturated.

And its called getting a phone simply based on interests and not so much as to whether it is a flagship phone or not

Ok, even if a 'brand new bigger better' model is out in the next few months, does that really make the Evo worthless? Regardless of what comes out in the future, I love my Evo and I am getting more than my money's worth out of it.

I came from the Pre and hated it at the end, so I really don't get your point. The pre is superior to the Evo in that it got more marketing?

Also, that ota video recording update came.. how many months after the Pre's release..? It was a pretty long wait.

What the OP is saying is valid. However, Google's peripheral attention is far more powerful than Palm's full attention or Apple's narrow-minded attention.

Yeah, while it's nice that Palm didn't abandon the phone after a couple months or a couple updates, most of the "great updates" were basic, modern phone features that should have been there either from the start, or in a much shorter timeframe.

So half-empty cup: they released a phone that was not finished; half-full: they stuck with it to eventually deliver a near-complete device.

This argument can be made for any consumer electronic device out there. Just get it out of your mind that you need the newest, latest and greatest device and you'll be fine. You can keep waiting for the next thing to come after the EVO but there will also be a another one in line after that "newer" phone is released. It's just the way it is, if you want the EVO get it and enjoy it, it's an amazing device.

Pre is different because they have to keep it alive for palms sake

Plus they have to continually blow smoke up the user's base butt to keep them interested in it. How else is Palm going to keep money trickling in from their lack luster marketplace.

I for one am all for newer phones. Sure, maybe seeing an announcement 2 months after purchasing the latest phone can be a little bumming, but just imagine what will be out when its time for a new phone? I say build, build, and build. =)

exactly,, android is making the smart phone on the same level as the laptop or PC. a new one comes out every day with better specs, you just pick one you like and use it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Evo getting updates, it will at least get Froyo, and that's a big update. As others said, the Pre needed every update it could get just to approach being a complete phone. Of course Palm supported it and updates it up until now, it is still their flagship device.

I too came from the Pre and I still browse the precentral occassionally. I'm surprised at how brain washed the Pre users are thinking the Pre is a superior product. It's not! I am glad I switched from that pathetic battery charge eater! And slow!... Take a picture and how many seconds do you have to wait? C'mon!

the pre was the best product out last year, you can't deny that. it changed the smartphone world similar to how the iphone did.. its just been past now android caught up.

I'm new to Springt due to the Evo. Did I read that with Sprint you get to upgrade your phone once every year (with new 2 year extension obviously)? If that's the case, then that is awesome! Would the upgrade to a new phone be the same price in a year as if I were a new customer?

that is correct. sprint is hands down the best carrier.. verizon is like a negative hit for me if a phone is on it.

The pre could have been a great product. However, palm is really slow enough getting the phones for features that should have been there from lunch. That and marketing and hardware.

The best news for the pre was the introduction of 3d games that played nicely.

Not to get too off topic but palms updates are so tiny in features the most patient of people have already jumped ship including me.

this is the dumbest argument not to buy a phone that i've heard yet.
