Currently have a Samsung Captivate which is getting old and tired. I'm just about eligible for an upgrade and am considering the One X. BUT................. The Galaxy S III is coming soon(ish) and I keep wondering if I should wait for that or go with the One X. From all the rumors I've read on the S III it sounds like it's going to be a killer!

What do you all think and why?

Stan

Well considering we don't know anything about the Galaxy S III it's hard to say for sure. There are no specs, release dates, hints, or anything else that says that it'll even come to AT&T. Look how long it took for the SGSII to officially come to AT&T. 7 months after the release of the international version give or take. The One X will most likely be launched at the beginning of the summer.

So for now it's the One X simply because it's the only one of the two phones that we actually know exists.

I think like HTC, Samung is looking to give the III a global launch, and the One X will certainly be here well before summer. It was confirmed for sometime in April. Either way, will probably be similar devices.

I am in the same boat. However, I decided I'll go with the One XL if it comes out way before the SGSIII. Samsung has stated they want to launch the SGSIII at the same time around the world and that it will come out in the first half of the year.

Basically if the SGSIII releases in April I'll try not to go insane, using an old LG VU at the moment as I returned my previous smartphone, and pass on the One XL. However, if they decide to launch after April I will be getting a One XL.

I would base it on how badly you want a new phone; are you willing to wait until June? If you are hold out for the SGSIII. If not, be like me and grab the One XL if the SGSIII is going to come out any later than April.

Hopefully the Samsung Conference next week will give us a launch date or at least specs.

Actually, if you look at the HTC website it says HTC one x for AT&T. The one xl is for the LTE enabled international version.

Notice how the XL specifically shows the AT&T bands while the X shows Europe and Asia. The XL will be on AT&T with an S4 processor and the X will be international with the Tegra 3.

That is fine, but you were on the worldwide HTC site. Check this link out on the page on HTC'S US website:

Stands to reason that AT&T, having the exclusive on it in America, that they still are gonna call it the One X. We won't know for sure til they announce the release date and price for it. In the meantime, I'm still gonna call it the One X unless AT&T changes their minds and calls it the One XL.

In that case you should mention if you're talking about the quad or the dual when you talk about the HTC One X/L.

makes sense...no need to differentiate names between markets. just gets confusing. besides, I'm actually happy to get the krait 28nm tech. lets be honest, what phone really needs a quad core? its complete overkill. I had the first tegra 2 phone in the US- the Motorola Atrix, and while it was a nice piece of hardware, I was not overly impressed. Looking forward to the One X. It always the worst when your upgrade has arrived well before the phone you want!

I would go with the htc over samsung. After the weak radios samsung seems to use and all the issues with the galaxy nexus I would look to someone other than samsung for my next phone.

My brother has a Galaxy Nexus unlocked with Orange UK sim and he hasn't had a problem.

I also can't decide what to have/wait for.

I think I'll get the HTC ONE X even though it has a tiny, non removable 1800mah battery and NO MicroSD card slot (why, oh why?), because I can't wait till June and the ONE X will be slightly less expensive

I think how each carrier names the same phone differently totally confuses the hell out of people.

And it uber fails to create a "brand" identification. Starbucks, iPhone, Xerox, etc

Going with the one x. I am a htc fan and this phone is one I am eagerly anticipating. If I get intrigued by the galaxy s3 then I may sell my one x and use what I get towards that. I have a bad bad habit of always doing that.

The Galaxy Nexus is just one of many phones. I'm super happy with my Samsung & would have no problem recommending it to someone as an upgradable option.

I've had plenty of horror stories with some HTC phones yet I don't think HTC is better than Samsung or vice versa.

I'm in the same boat. I like a lot of the features on the One X, the HDMI streaming being one and also the sat-nav actually looks quite good. That said, I can't upgrade till June'ish anyway so I guess its a blessing in disguise to wait, just incase the S3 is actually a beast (And probably will be what I get). Though I know if my upgrade was now.. I probably wouldn't wait and just be happy with my decision at being an impatient bastard lol :P
