OnePlus X just killed the A9

Re: Oneplus X just killed the A9

Exactly what I was thinking... as I wait for my A9. Still prefer the looks of the A9, but don't know if I like it $150 more, though.

And that is only till November 7th. After that it's a whole oneplus X worth more.

But HTC is still HTC. And oneplus is still oneplus.

Have fun playing the invite game, no fingerprint reader, and Lollipop (no doze).

Invite game will be over in a month. And it doesn't need doze. 2525 mA running an 801 with 1080p display. Having said that, of course it will get marshmallow before most of the phones out there.

Re: Oneplus X just killed the A9

I think A9 still has an edge:

1) NFC (non on 1+ X)
2) Quick Charge (non on 1+ X)
3) Fingerprint scanner (non on 1+ X)
4) Marshmallow with quick updates
5) Adreno 405 (vs 330 on 1+ X)

1+ X does have:

1) Larger battery
2) Smaller profile
3) 801 CPU (long in the tooth, but good)

Re: Oneplus X just killed the A9

I prefer the 801 to anything out there even more than the 810 which was the most disappointing SOC this year. Octa Core chips have disappointing battery life unless you have a 4000mAH battery.
But yeah that one + X looks impressive especially with the ceramic back as in the pocketnow hands on video.

4) half the price of the A9
5) equally well built
6) stock android

The only downside I see with oneplus is again, availability.

And the only upside to HTC I see is, that I love HTC. And I think HTC fans owe it to them to buy this new phone. Even if that means spending a lot more than it deserves. Love is expensive man. Can't deny that.

Re: Oneplus X just killed the A9

OnePlus X is missing Band 17 so in a lot of areas you're not going to have LTE service. Band 17 is used heavily in my state by AT&T and for me this phone wouldn't have much appeal since I like being on LTE. The HTC One A9, on the other hand, supports all major LTE bands for AT&T and T-Mobile and that alone makes it the more attractive phone. Although, I have to say that if the OnePlus had full LTE support I would go for it. It's better looking and a better size than the A9.

Re: Oneplus X just killed the A9

A very valid point about OnePlus X. Thanks for pointing that out. Now I that I've double checked it, OPX is off my list unfortunately. I don't mind One A9's smaller battery as much as I thought I would. Coming from Moto X 2013 lack of One A9's support of ambient display is gonna be a deal breaker for me. FTR, OPX does seem to support that feature. So far on my list, it looks like Nexus 5X is the one to pick.

Re: Oneplus X just killed the A9

Tough one for me. Some of the trade offs are really important on each phone when I think about my needs.

OPX- No NFC, no B12 for T-Mo
A9-Small battery, $150 more

Honestly if I get an invite I might just go ahead and cancel my pre-order as much as I would hate to. I really want to see HTC do well, but price-wise its really hard to completely write off the OPX.

I'd check those bands again I don't think the Oneplus has band 12.

To add to the list of corners Oneplus cut to get the x down to that price, no ois, and no dual band WiFi. For me, any phone with no 5ghz is a no buy. Absolute deal breaker. And personally I don't find the build attractive at all, reminds me of an old old iPhone or something and the only glass back I'd ever consider is the Xperia z5s frosted glass. Appears to be a super basic phone with nothing going for it other than price and an old flagship cpu.

I agree about looking like an older iPhone. At least the A9 looks like the current version! :D

That's all true. But look at the competition it's facing at $250, nothing!

32gb vs 16gb built-in is important to me, Even with an SD card slot.

Totally agree, but the nexus 5x and Zuk Z1 offers the A9 a run for the money.

I totally agree. Any device without Wi-Fi ac (5.0 Ghz) is a deal breaker. But even if I were willing to look past that disappointing drawback, it still doesn't support Band 12 (or 17, which I need because I'm a MetroPCS subscriber). Considering these things I don't think OnePlus intended for the OnePlus X to be a US Market phone. The One A9 is everything I'm currently looking for in a phone.

Premium build and feel
5" screen with HD res
Qualcomm Quick charging 2.0
Latest version of Android with future updates (HTC said 15 days after Nexus devices)
Fingerprint sensor with NFC
Micro SD compatible

All at a decent price considering that the only other phone I was considering was the Galaxy S6.

I think the A9 beats the one Plus X in every other category except price.

P.S. The power of 801 processor doesn't provide much of an advantage to the user over the 617 anyway.

No BAND 12 or 17. No Wi-Fi ac (5 Ghz). They didn't even try to put up a fight 👎
