Oneplus6t McLaren edition

You are not thinking of its full potential then.

I use wireless charging everyday and its become essential for me.

I have a magnetic wireless fast charge mount in my car. I just set my phone on it, no cables to plug in, and its held magnetically and fast charges wireless while I drive to/from work.

I never have to plug my phone into a wired charger anymore unless I wont be driving in my car for a few days.

And as for this "McLaren" edition I think it is a total waste, and stupid, to add even more useless RAM when they could have used that for NFC or wireless charging. You know, something USEFUL.

Android doesnt even need 6 gigs of RAM much less 8 or 10. I monitor RAM usage on my 6GB phone everyday and it has never even come close to using 6gb.
There is always 2.1-2.9 GB free RAM even during heavy use.

Good for you. I have thought it through though, and used it for a couple of years, and for me it sucks. Total waste of time.

How is a second NFC chip more useful than more RAM? Seems it'd just cause issues to me... Also while you're right that 10 GB is largely useless, i don't think you understand how adding more RAM works... It doesn't take more board space that they could "use for something useful" they just use higher density modules.

And there's a reason you have that RAM free... Android keeps it free for apps to fill so that you don't get horrible lag when you open a new app and android struggles to free enough memory for it. My 8 GB phone is currently sitting at just under 6 GB used and this will likely use 7.5 to 8.

What you get for the higher price is a lot more reasonable than what Apple charges.

But, having owned a 6T, I also would have been more excited for a USB-C PD charging as the proprietary chargers aren't cheap vs. a good USB-C PD charger or battery bank that I can use on my laptop, NFC support, a frickin headphone jack instead of a dongle or a bigger dongle if I want to keep my phone charged while listening to music.

I found the 6T wasn't for me and so reluctantly returned it.

I agree with you totally about USB-PD. Dash charge and warp charge are better but I wish they'd follow the standard... Ideally both together, there's nothing that prevents having both.

I am curious how long you had the 6T without realising it had NFC? Lol.

I think they use dash charge to avoid royalties or other fees associated with other charging technology. Qualcomm is known to nickel and dime the manufacturers to get access to all chip set features. Dash also keeps the battery from getting too hot and degrading.

My only issue with more RAM is that it also takes more power. It may be insignificant, but in older technology it wasn't.

It's a niche 'one up' device. I like it but I wouldn't own it. Just marketing

Buying this phone tomorrow. It's a little more expensive, but not anything to much. I agree with others who said 4gb ram was the norm just a few years ago, so why not have more?

I'll give my gf my essential PH1 which has also been fantastic. It'll be nice to have the newer snapdragon

Okay, so everyone obviously knows about the new McLaren edition of the oneplus6t. $700 10 gigs of RAM 256 gig storage. Unless you really need all that localized onboard storage 10 gigs of RAM seems. a little Overkill and it's $120 more expensive than 128 gig ram model
You're mixing memory and storage. The phone has 10GB of RAM - more than we'll need until you're ready to throw that (by then) old thing in the garbage. You could probably run 30 or 40 apps at once in there (which you can't do in Android) 128GB is storage - like the hard drive on a PC - that's where all your apps, pictures, songs, etc., are stored. That has nothing to do with RAM. 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is plenty now. But 10GB of RAM? That's like a car that can go 350mph. That's really fast - but where are you ever going to drive it at that speed? You'll never be using more than maybe 40% of that 10GB.

I understand the difference. Usually the more RAM the better. Stock Android has such a light footprint that most of the time you don't need the extra ram but still it's nice to have.

For That price just get the model I plan on getting around 580 and call it a day right? I I mean don't get me wrong, the orange looks cool, but just put an orange case on it. What does everyone think about this?

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a phone unless it had zero compromises. OnePlus devices don't have IPXX rating or decent cameras. Hard pass.

It may be "nice to have" but it's useless to have at this point, since it won't get used.

Yeah, I know. That's what I'm thinking as well. The regular 128 gig and 8 gigs of RAM model I love, but the McLaren edition is just a bit over the top.

The camera ratings are actually really good on the 6T... have you even looked at the DxOmark scores? What do you mean that kind of money? It's not overly expensive at all.

I really want the McLaren edition, one of my complaints with the OP6 256gb was that I just did not like the midnight black and it felt cheap in the hand, YMMV but I just got that sense every time I picked it up. The Mclaren looks like it would solve that for me.

However, with wireless charging and always on display it lacks 2 features that I really enjoy on android, one I could live without but both it just becomes a daily niggle that becomes a show-stopper. With lots of phones offering both of these (and more) for a similar price the OP is a 'pass' which is a shame as the Mclaren looks lovely and I do really like most of what Oxygen OS offers.

Wasn't always on display re-enabled in pie versions of the 6 and 6t?

No, it was there when the OP6 launched, removed shortly after and never reintroduced.

I asked OP customer support if they had plans to reintroduce it and they said no.

Nice job OnePlus, ordered this morning, and already shipped, just got the tracking details! Paid for expedited shipping.

In side-by-side comparisons with the Pixel 3 XL and the iPhone XR, the OnePlus 6T actually looks like a mid-range camera. I don't care about DxOMark scores.

Ah, ok. I don't care about your reference points. I care about output, I disagree, with your assessment.

In reference to the camera. I am coming from a Pixel XL and that had an awesome camera on it. I thought the 6t camera wasn't as good out of the box. But once I loaded the google camera apk on it I think it got much better and I honestly don't see too much of a difference from the Pixel I was using. I also have a Nikon D750 full frame DSLR and photography is a hobby of mine. I find the 6t camera to be fine for the instances I am going to use it in and very close to my original Pixel XL with the Google camera apk. If I am doing something that I need the absolute best I will grab my Nikon.

honestly, yes the pixels have the industry's best camera! That being said, I don't think the yT's camera lacks too much quality where you can tell a major difference.
