For this phone to have only 8GB of internal storage, even 16GB, and no SD card, why not remember it's a Nexus, and you _should_ be able to use an OTG cable and a USB flash drive if you absolutely need more/removable storage.

No, it's not a small removable card, it's not internally mounted, and no OTG cable is high quality, but expandable storage IS available.

Yes? No? Your thoughts on OTG/flash drives and Nexus devices?

It works, sure. But it's hardly the same thing. I'm not going to walk around with a hard drive in my pocket all the time -- and certainly not when I want to listen to music.

To each his (or her) own, though.

And u have to root your phone. Average Joe doesn't root. Just the 1% does

It's a Nexus, they don't have removable storage, and this is removable. If you need it, it's available.

It's a Nexus, easiest to root. Why would you not root?

Rooting breaks some apps. Time Warner cable e.g.

Because general public has no idea what or how to root. They like using the phone the way it is.

Because, why not just put more storage on the device in the first place. 16g should be the min.

Costs more money and most people won't use it. It's completely reasonable to save costs by offering a low-storage option. You should be able to pay more and get 16gb if you want it

Offering a low-storage option is fine, as long as they also offer a higher-storage option. As nice as cloud storage is, unless you have unlimited data, its good to be able to just store all your music or whatever right on your device. I know Google is pushing cloud storage, but with 8g they are kinda forcing it.

I have unlimited data (as in one that actually has no limit) and I don't think that cloud storage is a viable option for mobile phones just yet - I download all my Spotify playlists. Not in the UK, at least.

I suppose I could cope with 8GB, but I'd rather not have the extra hassle of deleting/redownloading music and stuff. And that's not even mentioning that Android games are stating to be released in sizes of nearly 2GB and above.

Cloud storage on mobile phone have one issue that will be hard to solve, even if you contry have 100% covarge.... it does won't work everywhere in places that it won't ever work, tunels, middle rooms in thick buildings, deeper basements (in my city there some pubs and clubs in basement level), not to mention not everyone use mobile internet yet, in my contry is not much popular and not everyone even with if they got smartphone has it.

Cloud storage has another problem: carriers. Phone manufacturers all want to cut costs with less storage and tout the cloud as the savior, but then the carriers go and limit our data. So with no more unlimited data is cloud storage for streaming music and whatever else while on the road a very viable option?

Exactly, I work on comercial and industrial construction sites and half the time i don't get a signal anyways. I'd rather not totally rely on online cloud storage for everything. And i sure as hell dont want some stupid flash drive hanging off my phone to listen to all my music. I know i can set up play list and crap like that but i just don't feel like it, just make things easy and equip the thing with storage thats on par with every other high end device. It would cost pennies for them and then they could make a killing off of everyone that wants more...... Which is why I think we will have more options (which is what android is about) than just 8g, I hope so anyways... Rant over.

I think this thread is based on the asumption that there won't be 16/32gb versions. The GNex has up to 32GB, I'd be surprised if this phone isn't the same.

I really like the idea of an LG Nexus but if not at least 8gb of on board and micro sd then no thank you. I've only owned 1 lg cell phone and I really liked it. That's why I'm looking forward to the lg nexus but if it doesn't have enough memory space than no thank you.

the big questions are 1) do you need to root? 2) can you transfer files both directions, especially from the phone to a flash drive or a portable hard drive. seems like a dumbass limitation if you can't

How little is 8GB exactly? I have my Optimus 7 for almost two years and here's my memory.
Total Storage: 14.94GB
Available storage: 12.59GB

Now I deleted a lot of stuff over the years, specially games. What I want to know is, is 8GB enough for apps and games?
