only getting certain texts

I just got the Verizon note 2 yesterday and I'm not getting texts from certain people, mainly my starred contacts like my girlfriend or parents, any help?

Are you using the default sms/mms app.
Are they, or you using a third party texting app like WhatsApp?

You didn't inadvertently block their numbers?

If you still have your iphone, go into your settings and turn off iMessage. If you don't have your iPhone, then go to Apple's site and de-register your phone number/email from imessage.

This is a related problem. I have a new number on an HTC One. People with iPhones who use iMessage have their texts go to someone else, not to me. If they use regular text messaging, it comes to me. I never had an iPhone. Any thoughts?

For the people with iPhones, have them delete your contact info and reenter it with your new number.
