"Open with" doesn't show installed media apps

Hello to all,
does anyone have an idea why I'm not offered any of the installed media players when opening a video file, other than pre-installed ones? I've installed VLC, MX Player and BSPlayer, and none of those are offered in the Open with dialog...

Welcome to Android Central! What kind of video file--mp4 or something else? If you open one of those players first and search for the file, does it play then?

Sorry for my slow replies...

this WAS isolated to Chrome/Firefox browsers and ES File Explorer, while when opening a file from the gallery I saw the choice of all installed media apps. But, this issue somehow fixed itself...
