Opening a notification from the lock screen

I just switched from the Note 4(marshmallow) to the S8+(Nougat) and am having issues with the lock screen and opening notifications. I used to be able to just click on a text or whatsapp message from the screen and it would open up to the respective messenger. Now I click on the message from the lock screen and it's not going anywhere until i hit the power key and click on the messsage. Is there a setting i'm missing? thanks

I have a S7 and mine acts the same way. It may be that it is one of the changes in Nougat. I've noticed that if I touch on the notifications, they highlight and then when I unlock the screen, it goes straight to the app.
