I have owned the incredible for about a month and when I go to open a text message thread sometimes it takes about 5-10 seconds just to open the thread. anyone have this same problem?

I have a thread with my wife that has about 500 texts, some with pics. It takes a little while to open but the rest are pretty fast.

why not just delete after like 100? whats the point of logging THAT MANY in one thread?

Trust me, you want handcent. It is very very snappy. I don't delete any of my text messages, I like to keep all my message history. I have never experienced any lag what so ever with handcent.

yeah i dont like it ive tried it

I'm still surprised people still keep messages. Use Gtalk and it keeps the messages on the Google servers, doesn't cost SMS and keeps a full searchable history via gmail.com. Of course everyone else has to have Gtalk installed on their phones. lol

i agree. but for some reason my friends still like to SMS me. i think gchat runs faster, and i like how you can switch from one chat to another by sliding left or right without going back to the main menu.

Except GTalk logs out constantly on mine and my wife's Incredibles.

Using an email system instead of a text doesnt work well for me becuase I get a ton of email a day and dont check it instantly because of this, but text messages are from my important contacts and they all dont have smart phones with email capeabilities either .

I tried handcent breifly and didnt like it, but i didnt give it much time nor do I recall the issue, so I will try it again, thanks!

+1 for Handcent. I like how you can make it look exactly the way you want - from the splash screen to the individual messages.

I've been using stock since day 1 without any lag tried handcent on my moto droid and didn't care for it.

I indstslled hancent, faster than stock but still slow, i notice reviews on android market say it is awesome,......until most recent upgrade where it now forceclose and lags.......ugh....my luck. Maybe i need to play with it. I wonder if the stock messaging system can be turned off and if so, would that speed it up, yes it forcecloses's a lot, but thats not a big deal.

I didn't have any lag w/ the stock text app. I don't have any with Handcent, which I am currently using.

But I am thinking of going back to the stock text app b/c it gives a delivery report. Also, I think Gtalk kinda blows...at least on the incredible.

I delete unwanted texts when it gets slow and the speed comes back. Facebook and Twitter notifications just flood the sms inbox.

Can you point out what you didn't like about handcent? I'm just curious.

Just everything overall. Its just too big and too much when i'm just trying to send text messages. Way too many options that are unnecessary and just confuses and takes away from the overall appeal. It's really not necessary for my life and i don't want or care about gay little colorful conversation bubbles like the iphone

i've been in months where i do 20,000+ texts a month so i'm definitely a heavy texter. For me there's really no reason to download a whole separate app for something that the phone does perfectly fine. I also don't need to log 500+ text conversations. if you have a problem with speed I don't see what the problem with purging your log. I honestly think the concept of "speed" is all in the mind of the user and apps act as a placebo.

just my $.02

Sounds like a local interference issue with the signal from 3g or WiFi. Me and my wife talk on it off and on all day with no issues.
