I have a Nexus and am happy to have a device that receives monthly updates and when released the latest Android version.
As connected everyone is now security should be and is a big deal to me. I feel used and abused and not cared for by the big carriers.
The slow process pushing updates is ridiculous. The carriers need to step up and provide the best security for our devices.
As a customers that's not at all to much to ask.

I agree with you. My Nexus 5x is my first Android and one of the reasons I chose it is because of security updates.

Buy a non-carrier phone.

I'm not bothered by lack of Android updates. The system is pretty secure unless you do something stupid (pirating apps, clicking every spam link, etc).

Yeah. I've had Lookout on two different phones because T-Mobile insists upon it as part of their JUMP+insurance program, and I don't think the app's ever even pushed a notification. It Dozes well, though, so no harm, no foul.
