Ok so I've tried out the Facebook app version 2.2, however I'm using the web version of Facebook with chrome notifications. The only problem is that with the web version, for messenger. I do not receive any notifications for new messages. I don't message via Facebook very often however, the times that I do, I'd like notifications. The Facebook version 2.2 uses about 90-130 mb of ram. I know I have enough, and I don't think I can have it both ways, however I just wanted to hear what everyone else here does. It also saves on battery for the web version. Grrrr

I personally refuse to install a hog app like FB Messenger. If someone really wants to message me, they have my number, they can either text or call me. Frankly, there is no message sent via FB that all that important that I have to get any sort of "notification." I'll just open the app every now and then and see if there is new message waiting. If there is, I'll respond via FB on Chrome. No application needed.

That's very true.

Or you could be like me, and refuse to use Facebook at all

I totally ditched fb messenger long ago too. Barely used it and it used a huge chunk of my battery. Only keep the regular fb app because it is easier to say 'share to Facebook' otherwise it would be gone. And their normal web interface is **** ugly. Wish all my friends and family were on Google +

William, I've been using Facebook app version 2.2 which doesn't use of a lot of memory is just the battery I'm worried about. it has a messenger feature within the Facebook app as well.

I'm not worried about the memory part, and I have removed a bunch of permissions and greenified as well as denied every wakelock from the app. Essentially its dead till I open it. When I'm done, i send it back where it belongs- in cold dark isolation.

Haha that's a good way to do things then.

I tried to lure people over to G+ so I could use fb less and less, but it remains a ghost town amongst my "circles" of friends lol

I fired the fb and messenger apps a couple weeks ago. In some ways the mobile Web version works way better than the app did.

AC App
Nexus 6

I'll tell you this much though, for the mobile Facebook site through chrome notifications, most notifications work fine, just not facebook Messenger notifications. My home screen notifications. Other than that though, it works flawlessly though.

is just the battery I'm worried about.

If you go to the "App info" (long press an app in the launcher), you can see the battery consumption of the app since your last full charge. You could monitor this stat for Google chrome with or without a facebook or messenger app, etc..

Yes I know thank you. Usually what I do is all monitor the battery stats for most apps going to the settings menu then a battery stats. And usually, Google Chrome isn't one of them is a check it heavily for facebook. However I feel that the Facebook apps and general no matter what version they are consumed more battery than the web version of Facebook. However, I do have the app within an email for Facebook app 2.2 version.

The facebook app consumed 3% of my battery since the last full charge.

I have the latest version, notifications on (but I get only a few per month), and no messenger.

What kind of battery consumption do you get from facebook?

Well, see for me, it's not just the battery usage I've also noticed that with the latest version of Facebook for Android, it consumes at least 180 megabytes of RAM memory versus the version 2.2 of Facebook which only consumes about 110 megabytes of RAM. Now, I know that the phone has three gigs of ram but I don't feel that Facebook app alone should use that much memory do you know what I mean? Maybe it's just me...

My situation is even more weird, i don't want to use it but i don't want to remove it from my phone either :)

Well, I just remembered how I side loaded the apk file for Facebook light which is really man for much older or cheaper Android phones of course that have little to no RAM memory and very small battery capacity is. And I'm not sure why I stopped using Facebook Lite application to start off with. Lol I mean I don't think it was because the app wasn't getting the Facebook newsfeed updates from the Facebook network. I just don't remember why I stopped using it...

Yeah, can't help you there, I never really worried about my RAM usage. I checked however and on average I use half of the available RAM.

Yeah I say about an average I'm using less than half the amount of available RAM. Or the west side load of the apk file for Facebook life. Takes 5 megabyte internal memory and uses almost no RAM memory whatsoever. Still testing it but so far I'm happy with it and it has an integrated messenger feature within the app as well. That's what I love most about it.
