Optimize device maxes out at 90

Re: Device Maintenance maxes out at 90/100....

Verizon does not have the optimize now option

Thanks for telling me. I wonder if there is any other app that I could download, which might do the same thing for my Verizon N8.

I believe the 90% problem only occurs on the US unlocked versions. Why?

I have a US unlocked S7 Edge and a US unlocked S8+. The 90% problem occurs on both of these and it tells me to activate Mcafee to get to 100%.

My T-Mobile S7 Edge and my T-Mobile Note 8 do not have this problem.

Here's what the screen looks like when it is prompting me to activate Mcafee.

I just leave it alone.

The phone performs just fine without tinkering with the stuff over there. The phone itself should already do a good job at background resource management.

Exactly. I returned the essential phone and they received it on the 16th. And still no response from Essential. No refund for the phone or camera. Still waiting.

Essential is being sued by Spigen for trademark infringement. Essentials in house attorney Adam Dolinko is a real putz. The global firm Perkins Coie is going to destroy Essential Products, and they deserve it after the research we've done.

This business with McAfee being forced onto people is interesting because I've been running AVG on my phone, and in the last day or so, the optimizer has been telling me to turn it OFF claiming that it is draining the battery! So it seems that Samsung or AT&T may be trying sneaky ways to steer users toward McAfee.

McAfee (And Adobe) lost all of my respect when Adobe started setting up their incessant updates for Adobe Reader (PDF reader) to, by default, also download and install McAfee antivirus. This resulted in millions of people accidentally installing McAfee on their PCs, and having to then uninstall it and reinstall their preferred antivirus, taking a lot of time. That's just plain dirty pool!

The IT people where I used to work actually uninstalled Adobe Reader and installed a different PDF program on every machine in the company because of this.

This use of the "optimizer" on our phones to steer people toward McAfee seems very familiar.

All I can think is that McAfee is in the practice of paying various companies a hefty sum to get them to do these sneaky things in order to force or trick people into using their products. That doesn't make me think very highly of McAffee or the companies they are able to "buy".

I find this paractice disgusting and it made me attempt to return my Note 8. But it seems like it allows you to use the app for a week or so before forcing this on us and because I wasn't able to set up my phone for a week after I got it, I was 2 days too late for the return window when this happened. The issue is that once you agree, which I reluctantly did, Mcafee does not even show up anywhere for you to uninstall it. It is literally a hidden app. I had a Samsung rep looking at my phone for an hour and there was nothing he could do besides installing a package disabler and trying to find it there to disable. By the way, it doesn't show up as Mcafee there either.

The other problem with it is even if you decide to do a factory reset on your phone, that app has already been backed up with Mcafee enabled and installed so you will end up in the same position. I honestly am wondering if there is a class action lawsuit waiting here. We have a 1000 dollar device that according to samsungs software, needs to be optomized by their app to run correctly,, but in order to do that, we are forced to install an app that is hidden, can't be monitored and can't be uninstalled. Seems a bit illegal to me. Imagine toyota seeling you a car and saying the only way it will run full speed is if you use goodyear tires and then after you put them on you can never take them off. I get the feeling that wouldn't fly in the courts.

This is plain dirty and I went from being excited to come back to Android after 5 years away to a great phone, to wanting to get rid of it and tell Samsung to go ef themselves. To say I have been unhappy about this is a huge understatement. And yes, I beleive this only applies to the unlocked versions.

Doesn't happen on mine and I have mcafee activated, unlocked euro/ international duo sd version

is it really bad to have mcaffe activated? I just tapped on agree to get rid of the notifications but haven't noticed any slow down in performance or any difference in battery life

It may not "be that bad", but tat's not the point. They are forcing you to use an app that you may not want, without the option to uninstall it once it is installed.

Mine hit 100 every time I optimised but now after a couple of weeks it is only going to 90 and is recommending that I install McAfee.
