Optimus Elite @ Walmart.com

I find it odd that they would put a 1200mhz processor in a low end phone, and then underclock it by 30%. This can be done, but usually by the time you hit the low end of a processors scale, there is another, cheaper model you could use.

Best info I could find is that it's similar to the Optimus Slider (which I expected)
Slider - 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7627T
Elite - 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7627A

It's a 32bit Snapdragon S1 Cortex-A5 ARM7-a, and the available clock speeds are 600-1000mhz. It's the same as the new Optimus M+, HTC Desire, Nokia Lumia 610C and the Huawei Ascend.

According to a thread i read over at Elite forums, the processor is in fact the same as a Triumph, its a Snapdragon S2 clocked at 1 GHz, Quadrant reports it as MSM7x30 (which was used in HTC G2 and identical to MSM8655) but instead of running at 800 MHz (as in the G2), it is actually running at 1 GHz, so it is much better than the optimus slider.

I would run out and get one right now and get one but the screen res is too low and its missing ICS, I'm just going to wait for the One V (which will have the processor as this phone).

Side-note: wonder why LG didn't enable 720p recording, the phone is capable to do it.

No offense, but what is more likely...
It's the same processor as the Optimus M+ (which is an update to the Optimus M, sibling to the OV), which makes sense since the Elite is an OV update. Then clocked it at mid level.

Or

They took a Triumph CPU and not only underclocked the heck out of it, but then changed the clock without telling anyone? Particularly marketing literature.

If a company makes an improvement without charging, they are usually quick to point it out.
Then there is the fact that the processor and screen are the most expensive parts on the Triumph, in fact most of the cost is there (the rest of it is pure crap, particularly the gps and camera). So how did they cut the price in half on the Elite without the price dropping like a rock for the Triumph?

Quadrant can easily be wrong, and in fact, I don't trust it for a lot of things, considering how long it took for them to fix Stagefright errors. It likely is wrong in this case considering EVERY bit of literature about that phone says 800mhz, regardless of processor.

Edit, did some looking...
Quadrant is reporting the ram wrong as well. A lot are convinced it is running at 1gig though.Again, likely an error or someone accidentally forgot something when setting the kernel. This still doesn't prove it's the same as the Triumph as many processors run at 1k and stick by what I said about what processor it until I see better evidence.

Regardless, I'm not buying one.

none taken, and hope I didn't offend you :( . And is nenamark2 or antutu more reliable than quadrant? I have a triumph handy from one of my friends, so I can compare it from here

No worries. :)
Last benchmark I used was Antutu and Linpack. Linpack was always pretty consistent

For those unable to get it for walmart just order on bestbuy.com and have it picked up at the store. Just got my Optimus elite and despite it being stock ROM, I like it quite a bit and it's snappy, slick and quite good looking. Slippery as a fish though so you need a rubber protector and cover.

other android communities have started to create a subforum for the elite and there is a lot of interest in development. I have a good feeling it will be an excellent successor to the OV.

As for higher end phones, I think with the Elite people can hold off from evo-like phones or in my case, the Samsungs. If the grandfather ever gets canned, I likely will not go with VM as I feel the Galaxy line holds some of my favorite phone builds ever. After trying them I conclude they are the only ones I'm willing to pay the premium for and will therefore go with the Service provider that supports them.

An update that my rooted elite reports the processor as indeed an MSM7x30. This is from setcpu.

We're discussing this and other events at android forums, though I hope that a new subforum is created here at Android central.

My neighborhood Walmart has the OV on the rack as Optimus Elites at $150. They're really that dumb
