I'm going to try and word this so it doesn't break any rules. I have an optimus v and a Droid 3 global. The end result of what I'm trying to accomplish would be the Droid to be working on vms network and the over well just figure out how to pull the radio files and use it as a wifi only device. I know it is possible to accomplish this task. So my question is can someone help me out in pointing me in the right direction.
P.S. I don't consider my self a "noob" I've worked with android for over a year windows and Linux for 4+ years.

Pointing you in the right direction is just a nice way of saying they will be linking you to a page on how to do it, or telling you how, and neither of those are allowed here.

Well if linking to something like that is not allowed just pm me

Airplane mode will NOT protect you! I have read several reports of people who thought that. Trust me, it didn't work. Off with the battery pulled is what I always recommend, this gives you added safety as you never have both on at once in any form.

As for help, unless you find a guide specific to your phone, that includes an easy way (or you are willing to pay for some expensive software), sell the phone and go buy an Evo V.

It's not worth the effort, hassle, or risk. Even if it works, the only rom you will get fully working is Cm7 and MAYBE CM9, otherwise MMS will not work, be flakey or make the entire system unstable. Not to mention if Virgin does check, you can get it some trouble, and yes, THEY CAN TELL. So far they have chosen not to look deep enough. The difficult and universal method takes dozens of HOURS of frustration, and again, if it works can still be detected and will be unstable under many most roms.

Been there, done it, got the t-shirt, not doing it again.
Sell both phones and buy an Evo V and save yourself a lot of hassle.
