Optimus V - Link2SD - Explain this?

I am an avid and frequent user of Link2SD. I love it when properly mixed with an SD-ext partition.

If I understand correctly, doesn't it move the app to the SD card and save a "shortcut" to it in it's original place?


If so, why is my internal storage going up ever so slightly?


Would this explain things? And what is that little tiny bit of icon to the left of the app icons? Why are Link2SD's "shortcuts" not the same file size? Facebook shortcut is freaking big for just a shortcut (or so I would think).

Someone please elaborate what I'm seeing.

Also, the phone still stores Dalvik cache and normal cache on the phone, which builds up over time. Thats one of the reasons you're supposed to clear both before you flash a rom.

Wait, so if I didn't clear dalvik/normal (which I don't remember if I did, I flashed from Harmonia to MiRaGe almost a year ago and didn't have to reload any apps if I remember correctly) does this explain why I only have around 28mb even with the use of link2sd? Or do I just have many apps that leaves private data files, etc... as stated in post 2 of this thread?

Regardless of Link2SD, the best practice to flashing ROMs is to wipe and format all, except the SDcard, when changing between different ROMs. And when updating the same ROM to a newer version, then only wiping cache and dalvik cache are needed. The majority of abnormal behavior and/or improper operation result from improper wiping/formatting prior to flashing. Not wiping properly could, but unlikely, to have an effect on your low memory when using Link2SD though.

It's not just "shortcuts" but there are a lot of apps that take up and use a lot of internal data memory space--e.g., downloaded Google map tiles for offline use, Google search history, picture thumbnails, browser cache and history, etc. Another source of gradual free memory loss is simply from poorly designed apps that cause memory leaks. There are also a lot of residual remnants from *uninstalled* apps that just eat up memory space even though they're no longer in use--another contributor to creeping memory loss would be from these 'ghost' apps. Download and use the SD Maid app, to periodically clear out these 'ghosts' along with other system cleansing procedures, and reclaim the lost memory space.

[Edit] If you wish to monitor exactly how your memory is being used, download and use the Storage Analyser app. This app reveals the memory usage by apps/folders/files of all memory partitions allowing user to better manage their memory resources. FYI. [/Edit]
