Optimus V Will Not Boot Into Recovery

Ok, let me play devilsadvocate here. If I had it flashed with the CM7 from when I first got it for them, it would not allow me to activate it. I tried online..did that...and tried on the phone and it wouldnt take. Reading on the net led me to believe I had to take it back to stock....was I mistaken?

Also, any clue/idea what happened to the original recovery on it or caused this to be such an issue? Im just wondering but, I am sure they either screwed with the sdcard or tried to do something they were told not to...just wondering so I can prevent that from happening in the future.

I have to say, this has been a learning experience and well, probably a good one. My company will be throwing BBs away come next month and moving to Android...based a lot on my input (go figure how smart they are eh?)

So, Im sure I will be crying somewhere else on this forum soon.

Well, CM7 is a gingerbread rom. Because of that, the VM activate app does not work on it. The activate app does work on the Froyo roms. I assumed that the app would activate the phone since it runs on all those Froyo rom I mentioned, but I've never used it to activate the phone fully. I've only used it to regain my 3G after doing stupid things to my phone. If you want to use CM7 as your primary rom and want to activate the phone later or if you've tried to activate with other non-stock roms and haven't been able to, you can do this:

  1. Setup your phone however way you want to keep it with whatever rom you want. We will call this your A Rom
  2. Boot into your new custom recovery.
  3. Go into Backup and Restore.
  4. Create a backup of your A Rom
  5. Now that you have your phone backed up, go ahead and install the stock rom. (only the stock rom, not the stock recovery too)
  6. You do this by placing the zip anywhere on the sdcard, loading the recovery, do a Wipe Data/Factory Reset, and selecting the flash zip option.
  7. Once you install the stock rom, boot into it and activate your phone.
  8. Now boot back into your recovery and restore the backup of A Rom.

Your rom and setup will be restored untouched, and your phone will be activated.

About why the recovery was so hard to change for you....I really don't know. The instructions I gave you didn't change. The files didn't change. It just magically worked for you at some point. Just a note, never use the factory reset found in the privacy menu on some of the roms. It will cause your phone to not boot, and you will be back here blaming the kids. You can always use the factory reset found inside the recovery without problems.
