Optimus Wifi and 3G?

I've searched and not found a solution.
When home, when I turn on wifi and connect, I lose my 3G icon.
It still passes texts and calls it seems, but anything that requires the data network fails. For example, trying to add or browse sprint ID's.
If I turn off wifi, 3G resumes and I can access sprint ID's.
Is there a way to have both run at the same time? (Like every other sprint phone I've had so far?)

Sprint specific features such as sprint tv or sprint ID, things like that you need to be on the sprint network as part of the verification process for it to work. This is the way it's worked with every android phone (hero, EVO, optimus) I've owned so far.

Its by design. When you use wifi, 3G radio shuts off. So as long as you have wifi on u won't use 3g. sms and calls don't travel over 3g connection thats why they come in. Never used Sprint ID and Sprint TV so I don't know if it will work over wifi. but KSmithNY is right, you need to be on the sprint network
