Option to crop/edit photos has disapeared.

I went to my photo gallery to crop a picture and was surprised to find the option to edit was gone.
When I click on a picture, I get three icons at the bottom: 'related, share, and delete'. But the pencil icon (that used to be there for editing) is totally gone.
When I click on the 3 dots in the upper right corner, it gives me a slew of options, but not one for editing.
This is strange because I've used the photo editor many times, and as recently as a couple weeks ago.
Does anyone know what could've caused photo editing to disappear off this phone? Thanks for any replies.

Which phone?
Which version of android?
Which carrier?
Which picture viewing app?

I think I posted this in the wrong forum.
I have the LG V30 running Oreo, on Verizon. It is the stock picture viewing app (gallery). The edit/crop function is completely gone.
It is strange because one of the biggest selling points of this phone is the camera/photo editing.

I just found the fix...
A couple weeks ago I disabled the Google photos app because I didn't use it and what it would do in the backround with my photos.
I just enabled it now and the option to edit in my stock gallery is back.
Weird.

Glad to hear you got it solved.

If you are looking for alternative apps in the future these are the ones I use:
viewer/gallery -- "piktures" by Diune
editor -- Google's Snapseed
editor -- Adobe's Photoshop Express
