Ordered a New One - Kinda Nervous

Me and smartphones, a sordid love affair. I've had too many and since I came back to Sprint, I got a Windows Phone 7, the HTC Arrive. What a mistake that was! It's certainly fast and very different but I can't handle a 1.0 device. I did that with the G1 and that was a mistake. I had the HTC Hero and hated it but that was about a year ago.

I've been reading a lot about the Epic 4g (obsessively so!) and to be honest, I'm a bit nervous now. I keep reading about all these bugs and glitches with upgrading and whatnot. I really held a lot of animosity toward Android because I feel like you have to do so much to keep the phone in order. My biggest worry is the phone slowing down. My old HTC Hero used to become almost unusable after a few days. Swiping the home screens were slow, app launches took forever, etc. Now with the faster processor, I was hoping this would alleviate that.

Can anyone tell me their Epic doesn't have any issues? Do I need to do something in particular to keep it in order? Are the bug issues representative of most people? The Sprint forums in particular are filled with terrible posts.

The Epic 4g itself it a great device. Hardware is solid and you should be very pleased with it.
Eclair 2.1 (DI18) was a good OS for the Epic, but like anything times change and new OS's come along. Froyo EB13/EC05 builds have been decent for most people, some people have had issues with the latest builds for different reasons most of which can be overcome or dealt with. I don't think any phone, is perfect by any means. Doesn't matter if its Blackberry, Palm,Windows, Android or that fruit based phone...

Gingerbread our next move in OS's is banging on our door, there has already been 1 leak version of Gingerbread out that rooted devices are running and within the next few hours-days we should have another leaked version in our hands which we hear is running very nice. So many of us are looking forward to Gingerbread and what new things it has to offer.

Really, I think you can judge a phone by the OS and how it runs but only to a point, as I said any phone will have its quirks. The Epic 4g has some just like any device, but I think it stands out among many of the devices of its time due to the quality of its hardware and beautiful screen. If your into rooting a device the Epic 4g has a lot to offer also. Want to stay stock? Well the stock isn't bad but does have a bug or two.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be happy with your Epic 4g and there is not reason why you should be having resets every few days, it runs great no matter stock or rooted and whatever problems do arise we can help you get it resolved.

+1, and i'm still running stock. yes, there are a few things i'd rather it be different or fixed.

as for reading forum posts, i keep it in perspective because usually people only post when they have a problem.

Thanks!

Thank you, the Epic is on its way to me so I'm excited just feeling somewhat hesitant. Anything new and exciting in the Android world that has been added or updated that I should catch-up on? I had an iPhone 4 most recently about 9 months and before that, the HTC Hero.

other than gingerbread, you might want to check out the app forum or market. lots of changes and great apps in the past few months.

edit: oh, and the sprint and google voice integration, if you're into that kind of thing.
