Android Central Question

I've always loved my S8, until the last update. Nothing works correctly and from everything I'm reading we can't rollback to an earlier version. I have my phone set for fingerprint sign-on, with home as a recognized area so I don't have to fingerprint in all the time. That no longer works, so either I have to remove fingerprinting or use it every single friggin time. I never get voicemail notifications now. I cannot get my kindle app to sync with my kindle anymore. My email, fb, etc. don't show the counts of notifications anymore. I hate my phone and it's all because of this update. Has anyone found any way around all of this or a way to rollback? Or know if a "fix" is coming soon? I'm almost at the point of factory reset and then don't update it at all if that would even work. TIA.

I created an account just to comment on this.. I am 100% with you .. I normally embrace the new changes and fun features but with the latest Oreo update I have never been more disappointed with my phone.

I also noticed that my 'home location' does not work and I need to unlock every time. (I use pattern in addition to fingerprint so its not quite as bad for me)

The main killer for me is the notification change. The way I have always used my phone is to turn off notifcations on my email and use the badge count instead. This allows for 'silent' notifications of sorts. Now if I turn off email notification it literally. Also, heaven forbid I clear my notifications, or respond to one text and not another because then I have no way of remembering I have other messages because the icon badge is cleared.

This might work for some people but I honestly don't understand why you'd want it this way. There should at least be an option that says something like "clear icon badge count when banner notification is cleared" or something similar.

Yesterday I took the leap to nova launcher and teslaunread. It fixed my issue with email and facebook, but not texts.

Anyway - just wanted to chime in my dislike of the change was well and hopefully someone comes up with something to revert to the way it was.

Check my thread a few posts down. You can downgrade back to nougat with Odin. It's real simple, just follow the steps exactly and you'll be all set.

It's so odd the amount of extremely different experiences with this OS update. All you guys here with horrible issues....in my case I have 3 S8s, one S8+, and two S8 actives that are all doing great on oreo. All of mine other than the S8+ are AT&T sources devices. The S8+ is an US unlocked device sourced directly from Samsung.

Centerman66- I think because we are focusing on the bad it sounds worse then it actually is. In general I would say that "everything is fine" except for my notification problems and my 'home unlock'. In fact, I was extremely happy with everything else about my phone, but the bad outweighs the good at this point just because it impacts the way I use my phone on a daily basis.
Is it possible you are using non stock apps for email, texts etc so you haven't been bothered? Or that you don't care about icon badges being removed? It's probably just a difference in how people use the phones I suppose?

I also notice little things here and there that are minor but don't cause me too much pain. For example, as I write this I glanced over to my phone.. the Always On Display is not on.. just a black/blank screen. No reason for that to happen in the middle of the day.

It is true I don't use samsung stock apps. I use Nova with tesla unread so notification badges were great before and are great now. I use BlackBerry Hub for email. Worked great before and great after. The same is true for Textra on my device.

The other samsung devices in my charge are all setup similarly so they are problem free as well.

I hope all of you with issues find your way soon. I know how frustrating it can be when ones main communication device is not working correctly.

I get insane badge numbers - like I literally have one unread email and it shows 832. I'd just as soon get rid of the badges except I need them for texts received!

I updated my unlocked S8+ and it was fine post update. Like you, I use mostly third party apps and haven't seen much in the way of issues. I use Nova Prime, Textra, and Nine and they are working as expected. I did a hard reset just for the hell of it and it's been working fine.

Just providing this as another reference point.

This update really hasn't been worth it, I've lost more than I've gained. I now have Samsungs ugly "squircle" frame icons on... some apps, while others look normal, I was able to toggle frames off, but it doesn't work. I have a few places setup for safe unlock of my phone, but it doesn't, prompting me to use my fingerprint or pattern each time.

I wish I had found this thread before I updated. I updated today, and things I noticed, minor, but annoying :
The Nav Bar always pops up when using the keyboard, to me it's annoying because I have never had to deal with it.
Next, the lock screen has totally changed. I never use the AOD, but the theme I had had the time in the middle of the screen and a different font, now it's at the top with Samsung font. Blah.
Also, Samsung connect notifications... I don't want to participate, but I get a notification to sign up every half hour.

One thing I did find out, you can now change the Nav bar button configuration, but now that I am used to it, it doesn't matter anymore.

Gotta switch back.

You could change the nav bar button sequence back on nougat. This is not new to oreo.
