OTA Gingerbread!

That looks right but then I dont have anything to compare it to anymore since I upgraded mine already.
Thanks. I wish I could figure this out.

I am just crossing my fingers that when the OTA does come (hopefully it comes) that I do not have a problem installing it.

Troubleshooting the Manual OTA Install Thoughts!

Thanks to Stig and Muddy for their Contributions earlier.

It looks like this is working well for most with a few Exceptions. If you are having trouble, refer to Stig's Explicit and Detailed Instructions on Page 1 of this thread....otherwise, use the Simple Shorthand method I laid out just below it. This should work for 95% of Stock Dinc owners....or more.

If you still have Problems, consider these Common Problems.....

First: Did you copy the Update file to the "Root" directory of your SD Card? This simply means that it is NOT in a folder like "Downloads" .....or any other folder, but instead is placed directly on the SD Card by itself along with any other subjects and folders. I did this with Windows Explorer. The drive where you place it will be..."Drive D,E,F,G removeable disk etc.".....or likely whichever is the Last removeable drive under "My Computer".

Second: Rename the file to "update". The original download file is a "Zip" file already.....and the "zip" extension will be automatically attached by Windows to the new name. If you name it "update.zip"....it will appear as "update.zip.zip" and NOT be recognized.

Third: ******* Did you manually update to Froyo?******. Check your SD Card for another "update" file. If one already exists......Rename it to "Froyo" or something else other than "update". There can be Only Be One "Update" File on the SD Card, and it should be the New GingerBread Update File.

Finally.....if you are Still struggling with the Update.....you probably need to Reformat your SD Card. Again.....refer to Stig's Explicit Instructions on Page One of this thread to do this.

Your Manual Update should be SIMPLE....as layed out on Page One by my post. If it is NOT that simple, then you likely have other issues.....or your phone is not "Stock". In that case.....recommend you follow Stig's carefully worded and "Checked" post on Page One.....or wait for your OTA.

Hope this is Helpful Good Luck....D

I finally got the OTA! It's going to take a while to download since I'm in a bad 3g area with no WiFi.

My update never installed, it finished downloading but my phone didn't reboot and install it. What do I do now?

I got the update this morning. the only thing I notice right off the bat is that the volume is much louder than it was before. I use Amazon MP3 and it's a lot louder, not a bad thing just different.

Excellent post. I had the update this morning and it froze before finishing. I called Verizon to push it to my device before I found this here... Thanks!:)

So I verified I have the correct file by comparing the MD5. They match.

I verified that my SD card is FAT32.

I verified that the file is named update.zip and is in the root of the sd card

The first time I ran the update I got these errors after it ran for several seconds:
" Failed to verify whole-file signature "
" Signature verification failed"

Since then, if I reboot into hboot, I get a message something like 'no image or wrong image'.

If I go to Recovery and attempt to apply the update.zip that way I get the following:
assert failed: check_cid(getprop("ro.cid"). "00000000", "11111111", "22222222", "33333333", "44444444", "55555555", "66666666", "77777777", "88888888", "99999999", "VZW__001") == "t"
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

So this morning I wake up with a message that the OTA is available and asking me if I want to install it. I choose OK and it starts a countdown to reboot starting at 5 or 10 seconds. When it reaches 0, it just stops and nothing happens. If I go into Settings and check for updates it tells me my system is up to date.

I've seen people repeating that you should just reformat your SD card but I don't want to do that unless its really necessary. From what I read in the initial posts, the whole point of reformatting the SD is just to get the file system formatted as FAT32 and mine already is so it seems there's no need to do that. If there is a need beyond simply getting it to FAT32, can someone chime in?

Also, when I try to boot into HBOOT, sometimes instead of doing so it will just vibrate 5 times and the screen remains black. I have to pull the battery to be able to do anything at that point. Anyone have any input as to what this is about?

Please verify the following things:

Make sure you have the correct download. The full file name is listed in the Directions post on the first page.
SD Card is FAT32
The MD5 for the download matches the MD5 posted in the Instructions post
That the file name on your SD Card is update.zip; not update, update.zip.zip or any other variant. (You can boot your phone normally and use any file manager to look at the SD card)

If one of these things is not correct it will not work. This procedure works. It's been done by me personally several times today, and many others here have gotten it to work as well.

Be patient in HBOOT, it takes time for the process to read the card and find the file. The bigger your card/more stuff you have on it, the longer it will take.

I had tried everything listes on this thread with no luck. However, I noticed that when I looked for the update.zip file from my phone (I used ES Explorer) it wasn't there. Windows showed it but the phone didn't seem to see it. I then moved the file via USB to the phone storage. I then unplugged the USB and moved the file from the phone's memory to the SD root directory with my file explorer. It was then visible to the phone and the hboot took right off. I'm now a proud gingerbread fan.

just wanted to thank everyone for your helpful posts. been wanting to try the root thing for ever but have been too afraid. I love my Dinc. can't live without it. that being said, I finally got up the nerve to try downloading and installing the OTA manually, and thanks to you all I did it successfully! thanks everyone. I just may try rooting yet.

Glad I'm at least not the only one seeing this. What's your situation? Stock? Rooted?
