OTA System Update - 1.141.07 - 5/26/11

Early indications on my end are that battery life is substantially improved. Leads me to believe that Acer got around to disabling the Phone processes.

weird activity... the ota seemed to improve my wifi signal. did you have any issues/errors when the ota installed?

No issues or errors running the update. The tablet works fine with bluetooth not connected to something. Once I connect my bluetooth headphones, wifi drops within minutes only to drop every few minutes or so. I downloaded wifi analyzer from android market and I changed my wifi channels thinking maybe a strong signal from another access point.

Can I ask anyone that has done the update to link any bluetooth device that take up relatively normal to higher bandwidth over bluetooth (A2DP speakers/headphones) and use their wifi at the same time. I'm thinking that my issue is that bluetooth and wifi running at the same time is putting a stress on the radio's chipset. Not sure if that's a software, hardware, or if I have a defective device.

What's bothering me is that both were working fine before the update on the 26th at the same time.

My update failed as well, until I went into my Bloatware freeze app and unfroze all the extra stuff I never used. Once I did that, I reran the update, went through fine. Then I redid Gingerbreak and refroze all the extra junk :-)

I'm going to pick up a pair of Bluetooth headphones next Thursday and I'll test this, will keep you advised.

Just downloaded the update sitting in the parking lot at McDonald's, no AC power, battery at 85% downloaded fine and installed no problem. Don't. See any difference yet.

So, I just happened to root my device using Gingerbreak 1.20 tonight.

Literally about 10 minutes later, I was prompted that a system update was available. I dont know if this was coincidence or if the rooting caused this to be seen as available. According to XDA, others are getting the update as well.

I downloaded the system update (38 something MB) and it gave me a message in the top left corner of the screen that it was booting into system recovery image and began applying.

Went from:

Android Version: 3.0.1
Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3-00001-g9b3ce2b
Build Number: Acer_A500_1.104.02_COM_GEN1

Went to:

Android Version: 3.0.1
Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3 (note, the -00001 and such after the kernel number appears to now be gone)
Build Number: Acer_A500_1.141.07_COM_GEN1

It didnt appear to break root - I still have Superuser available although I had to re-run Gingerbreak.

I'll detail any fixes I notice, but on XDA it is being reported that this update:

a) somewhat fixes the screen wake/sleep issue, although it is still occuring (will update once I have more use with it)
b) improves Wi-Fi signal significantly (I noticed slight issues before but nothing major, I'll be monitoring wifi signal to see if it is better)
c) improves GPS signal significantly (although I never noticed any issues with mine before)

I've noticed the device seems snappier although it could just be a placebo effect at this point.

The first time I tried to apply it, the update failed. The tab has to be plugged into a power supply in order for it to be successful.

Post here if you've got the update and notice any changes.

I don't suppose you have access to the update.zip file you updated with? I have the same kernel version but have not received the update yet.

no, unfortunately. unless it saved somewhere after it applied and i can extract it somehow. I think it removes itself once the update applies successfully.

Finally got the update notification...sadly, it appears multi-tasking is a bad idea during the download portion b/c the screen essentially locked up! Worst part is that I can't get the update notification to show up again!

Hey guys I bought mine on May 30th 16GB can't find the 32GB yet at Bestbuy. In any case as soon as I turned mine on it prompted me for the update I did the update no issues at all. I see some of you had WIFI issues before and some didn't. I was not able to check this prior since I got the update right away and I did it thinking it was Honeycomb 3.1. The issue I have is also WIFI, not when Bluetooth is on like most of you, but all the time. The WIFI just turns off, when I see there is no signal I quickly go to settings to check WIFI and I see it saying WIFI turning off, today the WIFI actually froze and I could not turn it back on I had to power off the tablet. I do have a static IP address on it so not sure if that is the issue. It also seems to happen in a particular area of the house but yet my wifes iPAD does not do that and also my EVO does not do that either in the same room and it too has a static IP address. I did turn off the WIFI sleep policy to never to see if maybe it's an issue when the Tablet comes back from sleep that may be causing it I will keep you updated on that. WIFI signal seems good. :(

Had my tablet for three days now....still no prompt to update. Any ideas? Running build number 1.104.02.

no more 1.141.07 updates

Apparently, if you didn't get the update yet, you're not getting it until Honeycomb 3.1. I purchased an A500 for my wife last Thursday, updated as soon as it was connected to the router. I liked hers so much I bought one for myself. It never updated and update check said firmware was up to date. Checked with Acer support (via chat, then level 2 support on phone), was told that they have halted the 1.141.07 update, and that those who did not get the update will have to wait until 3.1 arrives at the end of the month.

I guess I wait.. Not nu-impressed with the device but the 3.01 software is taking some getting used to..

Not a fan of the sleep/wake events.. and the keyboard lag.

Oh well.. that is what I get for getting on at the beginning ;)

I bought a acer Iconia Tab A500 yesterday, and went start in it updating the thing. After the update, my device locked up and was unable to get it to unlock. I had to return the device back to the store and get a new one, and now fear to up date it again.

OK. have had A500 since July. Weird thing is;

Android Version; 3.1
Kernel Version; 2.6.36.3
Build Number; Acer_A500_4.010.13_COM_Gen2

I have gotten two OTA updates since i purchased unit.

Wifi connects solid and works fine, Stereo bluetooth headset connets fine with no issues. Dont think i have ever tried both at the same time. Mostly have been using headsets to watch movies on a plane.

dont understand why the different build number. Oh and unit is not rooted.

Acer is getting ready to release 3.2 and it has been mentioned these small updates are for that.
