OTA Update Just Came Down

You must apply the Software Update... Then go to Verizon Website and go to Add/Remove Features for your line... Find the "Add Advanced Calling 1.0 $0.00" Feature and add it.. set it to either BACK DATE or Begin today! Update your Account, Wait 5 Minutes and Turn OFF your phone (Not restart)... Then turn it back on

Got the update on both my G2 and my wife's G2. Its amazing that Verizon makes you go through all the steps to activate it; something the average user will never realize unless Verizon sends them notice as to how to get it working.

G2 to G2 call quality is exceptionally good... much better than the already excellent quality we (most of us) already enjoy. Haven't tried the video call yet... still have to convince my wife.

Non VoLTE to VoLTE calls actually sound better... may be my imagination but it really seems like the quality ins better.

On a side note, battery life seems better (I disabled some of the tweaks you may have read in another one of my posts)

Did anyone else just get a 2nd OTA Update... Its v598026A... The Last one was 25b! It did fix a few issues my phone had! I couldnt make calls correctly and it kept saying com.google.ggapps. what ever couldnt load! Phone fixed

I just got notification of an OTA update. I'm installing it now, will post back when it's done.

I've been trying to update my lg g2 and I always get an error screen then phone reboots and says there was error while trying to update. Tried about 10 times now. Saw others having similar issues and wanted to see if anyone has figured out solution.
Thanks

I haven't posted here or on XDA in a long time. I am a G2 owner that got both recent updates, and because of this thread, I became aware of how to turn on the Advanced calling. Thanks a lot guys!

The voice quality is very, very good. More top end, bottom end, dynamic range and a zero noise floor. Quite amazing.

I called my wife, who also owns a G2 with the newly activated Advanced Calling feature. The video feature works great and is nicely designed into the calling workflow. I got great framerates and the audio was still just as exceptional.

One thing that can't be avoided is the awkward use of any video device for communication. If you are OK with looking up the other person's nostrils, and having everyone within 30 feet listen to your conversation, it's a great thing. Using a headset would fix the shared audio problem, but you still need to look like a dork taking a 10-minute selfie. This is not to VZW's discredit, it's just the nature of this commuication medium.

Overall, BRAVO to VZW (how often do we say this??) for an exceptional new feature, beautifully implemented, and at no additional cost to us.

I like it. :D

Looks like battery life has significantly improved for me. Posted a thread a few weeks ago bout some battery tweaks and was getting pretty good battery life with them. Decided to reverse those tweaks after the update to see how battery life is and after about 5 days with out them, it seems to be very good.

VoLTE call quality is very clear and LOUD... sounds "tinny" until you turn the volume down and it then sounds like the person (fortunately my wife) is right there next to you whispering into your ear.... very clear. Unfortunately, it only works with other phones that support VoLTE (S5 and G2) Hadn't tried video calls yet.

One interesting thing though is I still have the problem of missed calls at home. Was hoping the update would fix them as well as Verizon turning on VoLTE. I have decent 4G at home but occasionally, when someone tries to call me, my G2 doesn't ring, and I don't get a missed call notification. It rings 4 times on their and and goes to voicemail. If they leave a message I do not get a new VM notification until several hours later. Looks like I'll be calling Verizon again about this.

the funny part is i was just messing around on my phone settings and i thought "hey let me just check for fun if there's a new update". imagine my surprise when it was there (i hadn't been reading the forums so i had no idea that a new update came out).

This is exactly what happened to me, and I immediately came here to see what people were saying. Because there were no negative reports, and a few positive, I went ahead and downloaded it (25B; haven't seen 26A yet).

I would agree on both these counts. Though I always found my call quality to be fine, it does seem even a bit better now. Also, I too feel like my battery life has improved a bit. It had declined over the last months to a point where, while not being "concerned", I was a little disappointed, just because my battery life had been so good for the first several months.

And finally, I noticed this update fixed my biggest annoyance for the past several months. Ever since the update to KitKat last spring, Quiet Time had quit function properly: it would not turn on or off as scheduled; actually, it would do one or the other ... sometimes, but neither consistently or all the time. It's actually why I thought to check for the update last week, as I do periodically, just for this issue. And, lo and behold, with the update I've found that Quiet Time is functioning properly again ... all the time. Makes me a very happy camper. :D

Hope everyone else continues to have positive experiences with this update.

I am FURIOUS!!! I noticed this morning that, after a week of operating perfectly, once again Quiet Time is not working properly on my phone. It started on time last night, but did not turn off at the scheduled time this morning. I purposely had not installed the 26A update because I didn't want to take a chance of this exact thing happening. But, when I checked, what do you think I discovered? It had apparently automatically been installed over night (I checked last evening and it was still on 25B). ARGH!!! I don't understand why it permitted me to manually install 25B but it automatically installed 26A without my permission.

Sorry, just venting a little. But, damn is this frustrating!!! :(

Yeah, quiet time WAS working for me before the update but quit after the update.

My wife was on a business trip last week and tried several times to call me but could not get through. Quiet time rejected her calls and replied to her with a text message stating I was unavailable. She's on my whitelist for allowed calls.

So yeah, broke for me too.

Trekkie... Try turning off the "OK GOOGLE" Feature! I was having issue's with my alarm going straight to SNOOZE rather then sounding... I found a thred that had me Turn this off, Alarms corrected themselves.. however, i thought that fix was in 25b or 26a... Try it anyway Settings:Accounts:Google:Search:Voice:"Ok Google" Detection... See if this helps

Thank you for the suggestion, but I was just logging on here to say that the problem seems to have corrected itself. The only thing I am certain I did was a power cycle; actually 3 of them over 3 days, and now Quiet Time is working just fine again. So, I guess my rant was for nothing. Well, not for nothing, because it definitely wasn't operating properly - and I still hate the Verizon can force updates on us - but, at least the QT problem seems to have resolved itself again.

So, all's well ... until the next firmware update. ;)
